Monroeville moves into first place tie in FC

MONROEVILLE — The Monroeville boys basketball team limited visiting New London to single-digits in all four quarters of a 49-28 win in Firelands Conference play on Steve Moore Court Saturday night. Monroeville (11-5, 9-3) moved into a tie atop the FC standings with Plymouth (13-6, 9-3) after the Big Red lost at the buzzer against Crestview. With two wins, the Eagles are assured at least a share of their first FC championship since the 1983-84 season. In Saturday's win, Derek Ackerman and Alec Schafer each scored 11 points, and Cole Perry added eight. For New London (9-8, 4-7), Henry Thomas scored seven points, while Jackson Mitchell and Grady Heileman each scored six. The Eagles have a non-league test on Monday against Seneca East (14-4) before hosting Bucyrus Wynford (4-14) on Wednesday and Mapleton (2-15, 0-11) on Friday. The Big Red travel to St. Paul (11-9, 6-6) on Friday.
