Monroeville picks up key FC road win

COLLINS — The Monroeville boys basketball team steadily outscored host Western Reserve over the course of four quarters in Thursday's key 59-46 Firelands Conference win in Collins. The Eagles (10-5, 8-3) remained one game behind FC-leading Plymouth (13-5, 9-2) with three games remaining. The two teams split this season. Derek Ackerman led the Eagles with a game-high 20 points. Link Schaffer-Paull added 14, while Maverick Myers had eight. Western (9-7, 7-4) got 13 points from Hayden Dobias in the loss. Tyler Cooper and Caleb Pausch each added nine points in the defeat. The Roughriders shot 3-of-22 from the three-point line. Plymouth 83, New London 58 NEW LONDON — The Big Red turned a slim 30-29 halftime lead into a rout over the host Wildcats Thursday night to remain alone in first place atop the FC standings. Plymouth got 32 points from Izaya Reynolds in the victory. New London fell to 9-7 overall and 4-6 in the FC. The Big Red host Crestview (8-9, 7-4) on Saturday. BOWLING NHS boys win again SANDUSKY — The Truckers improved to 10-9 overall and 9-6 in the SBC with Wednesday's narrow 2,324-2,298 win over host Perkins at Star Lanes. "We held it close all night," Norwalk head coach Drew Burge said. "After the second game, we were trailing by 40 pins. Then the team just chipped away during the Baker games." After the first Baker game, Norwalk was down by 21. The Truckers went ahead by four after the second Baker. "The boys knew they could pull away," Burge said. "The result was just enough to beat a really exceptional Perkins team who had our number earlier this season." Eli Keefe paced Norwalk with a 204-180—384 series, and was closely followed by Kevin Mills (200-181—381). Ashton Kolk (154-192) and Isaac Bohne (169-177) each rolled a 346, while Andrew Klett had a 149-186—335. "The improvement these guys have shown throughout the season has been great," Burge said. "Any one of them could pick up the slack when someone is having an off night. When we are able to keep it together, this team can pull off some upsets." The NHS girls fell to the host Pirates, 2,018-1,257, and were led by Cassie Scott (132-135—267). Rounding out the lineup was Gabbi Tomasulo (109-102—211), Mae Fox (85-90—175), Ana McClimans (190), Alaya Winkler (111), and Aryanna Winkler (72). "Tough match tonight," Burge said. "Perkins is such a talented team, so it was tough to hang in there. But the girls kept their spirits up and just worked on putting the fundamentals together to prepare for the challenge ahead. They are headed in the right direction." Truckers swept by Huron NORWALK — The NHS boys fell to visiting Huron, 1,773-1,401 in the final match of the regular season on Thursday to finish 10-10 overall. Jacob Rockwell (181-137—318) paced the Truckers, followed by Orion Herber (152-157—309), Kaiden Kimble (109-102—211), Josan Grimes (84-105—189), Ben Rockwell (89), and Lucas Bohl (85). The girls fell to the Tigers by a 1,611-1,343 final score, with Cassie Scott leading the team with a 126-143—269 series. She was followed by Gabbi Tomasulo (129-111—240), Ana McClimans (110-110—220), Mae Fox (110-93—203), Aryanna Winkler (89), and Alaya Winkler (89). "It was a fun atmosphere with the team, teachers, and the school coming out to support the seniors tonight," NHS head coach Drew Burge said. "Even though the teams lost, they were well supported by everyone, which was great to see." JUNIOR HIGH NMS teams finish regular season The Norwalk Middle School eighth-grade boys basketball team finished the regular season with a 9-4 record following Wednesday's 46-34 win over visiting Perkins. Blake Muskovich led the Truckers with 15 points, and Jacob Tyler had 10. Jose Benavides added six points, followed by Ryker Crumrine (5) and Landon Waite (4). The eighth-grade team is the No. 3 seed in the league tournament and will face Tiffin Columbian on Saturday. Meanwhile, the NMS seventh-grade team finished the regular season with a perfect 13-0 record overall and 8-0 in the SBC Lake with a 47-33 win over the Pirates. Benny Sellers and Maddox Gamble each had 16 to pace Norwalk. Eli Schmidt and Lincoln King added four each, while Zane Scheid scored three points Wes Pittenger and Drew Hamernik each had two points. The Truckers have a bye in the first round of the SBC Lake tournament. They will play the winner of Clyde-Bellevue on Tuesday at Clyde. The NMS eighth-grade girls improved to 12-1 with a 48-15 win over the Pirates in Perkins. Londynn Clifton led the team with 17 points, while Stella Kipp and Brynn Sellers each had 11 points, and Lilli Kipp added nine. The team opens SBC Lake tournament play on Tuesday at Sandusky. The seventh-grade girls also finished the regular season at 13-0 with Wednesday's 48-27 win over the Pirates. Lexi Schmidt and Kayla Naseman led the scoring with 26 and eight points, respectively. Grace Emmons and Ella Ames each had six points, and Adelinn Sitterly chipped in two points. The Truckers are the No. 1 seed and also have a bye in the Lake tournament.
