Monroeville announces Hall of Fame class

The Monroeville Hall of Fame committee recently announced its 17th annual class of inductees. This year, the school will be inducting Jeff Winslow, Roger Dickman, Harriet Parcher, and the 2019 softball team during a ceremony on Feb. 7 in the cafeteria. Doors will open at 4 p.m., with dinner beginning at 4:30 p.m. The ceremony will follow dinner. Inductees will also be recognized prior to the varsity boys basketball game later that night against New London on Steve Moore Court inside the Monroeville Athletic Complex. Tickets are required to attend the event and are on sale in the high school athletic office for $20 per person, which will include dinner provided by Bone Boys BBQ. Here is a look at this year's class of inductees: Roger Dickman (Alumni/Community) Dickman was a 1965 MHS graduate who participated in marching band, qualified for the district state scholarship test in English, and was a manager for the baseball team. He attended Bowling Green State University and graduated in 1974 with a bachelor of science in business administration. In 1994, Dickman became a Leadership Sandusky graduate. He was a life member of St. John's Lutheran Church, serving as the president, an elder, and playing on the dart ball team for many years. After St. John's closed, Dickman became a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroeville. Dickman was a self-employed insurance agent at Dickman Insurance Agency for 33 years and was very active in the community throughout his life. Among his many groups, Dickman was a life member and on the board of directors of the Izsak Walton League of America in Huron County; served on the Ridgefield Township Zoning Board of Appeal since 1993; and was a member and auditor for the Bellevue Fraternal Order of Eagles. Dickman was also a 20-year volunteer poll worker for the Huron County Board of Elections and a founding member of the Monroeville Hall of Fame, where he served as the chairman from 2009 to 2021. Dickman was fascinated with local history and was a life member, trustee, and insurance advisor for the Firelands Historical Society; a 25-year member of the Erie County Historical Society; a 30-year member of Historic Lyme Village Association; and a charter member and past president of the Firelands Post Card Club. He authored two books on the history of Monroeville, Ohio. "Our Town," a pictorial history of Monroeville. The first book of its kind ever published by an individual solely about the Monroeville area. Other books include Monroeville, Ohio, "The Early Years," published by the Monroeville Historical Committee in 2018, and "Ernst Niebergall-Sandusky's Photographer," co-authored by J. Semon, Roger Dickman, and J. Brown in 2018. In 2001 he designed the Ridgefield Township 200th anniversary sign. He also created the new sign for the North Monroeville Cemetery. Harriet E. (Schnee) Parcher (Alumni) A 1954 graduate, Parcher started a lengthy career in public education in the 1960s. In 1961, she began coursework through BGSU while raising her family with her husband, Ray. She started substitute teaching with Norwalk City Schools in 1963 before accepting a full-time teaching position at Bronson Elementary in 1965. Later that year, Parcher transitioned to Maplehurst Elementary in Norwalk. In 1968, after the birth of her youngest child and during a time when district policy prevented pregnant teachers from returning immediately to the classroom, Parcher served as librarian at Wakeman Library. The following year she returned to teaching as a second-grade teacher at Hartland Elementary at Western Reserve Schools. In 1971, she earned her Bachelor of Science in education from BGSU, followed by a Master of Education degree in 1978. In 1979, Parcher was appointed Elementary Supervisor for Huron County Schools. She later became Director of Curriculum and Instruction (K–12) and, in 1988, the Assistant Superintendent. In these roles, she worked closely with educators across the county to align curriculum, strengthen instructional programs, and support teachers and administrators in providing high-quality education for all students. In January 1996, Parcher achieved the pinnacle of her professional journey when she was named Superintendent of Huron County Schools. For three years she led the county through a period of collaboration, innovation, and high academic standards, guiding seven school districts in shared services and curriculum development. Her leadership reflected a lifelong commitment to students, educators, and the community she proudly called home. From 2000 to 2001, she concluded her public service as Interim Huron County Administrator for the Huron County Commissioners. Born, raised, and devoted to Huron County, Parcher dedicated her life to education and public service. Jeff Winslow (Alumni) A 1986 graduate, Winslow has more than 18 seasons as a head basketball coach after he was a multi-sport standout athlete for the Eagles. Winslow competed in football, baseball, and basketball, helping Monroeville win a Firelands Conference championship in football and excelling on the basketball court. As a senior, he set the school record for assists in a game and was named All-FC first team, Northwest District second team, and All-Ohio third team in the 1985-86 season. Jeff continued his education at Terra State Community College, earning an associate degree in business, followed by a bachelor's degree in education from BGSU in 1993. He later completed his master's degree in educational administration from Ashland University in 2010. Alongside his work in education, he has also been a licensed real estate appraiser. Winslow's coaching career included assistant and junior varsity coaching roles at Western Reserve and Monroeville before he became the head coach at his alma mater from 2000 to 2003. That was followed by a stop in Huron (2006-09) before arriving in Upper Sandusky, where he is currently the head coach in his 14th season for the Rams. Winslow is the all-time wins leader at the school with a record of 198-87 prior to this season. That includes four Northern 10 Conference championships, two undefeated regular seasons, five sectional titles, and one district championship. For his career, Winslow's teams were 240-171 entering this season. He's earned N10 Coach of the Year and District 6 Coach of the Year honors three times and also earned OHSBCA Coach of the Year honors. He also served as head coach in multiple all-star events, including the OHSBCA North–South All-Star game and the Fostoria All-Star game. In addition to basketball, Jeff contributed as an assistant tennis coach and has remained the physical education and health teacher at Upper Sandusky. 2019 softball team The 2019 Monroeville softball team broke a proverbial glass ceiling for future tournament success by reaching a Division IV regional championship game. After winning 20 games in a season for the first time in 2018, the Eagles followed with another strong performance behind four-year varsity players Carley Helmstetter, Skiler Hershiser, Jessica Hayes, and Alex Carper, while three-year letterwinner Kylie Roth and first-year letter winner Kelsie Rarick added depth and versatility. The 2019 team also had a talented sophomore class of Payton Scheid, Callie Rosser, Lydie Landoll, Sydney Meisler, Adelynn Kradlak, Emily Kradlak, Alyssa Hupp, and Piper Hauler. The freshman group included Brooklyn Schaffer, Grace Tonelli, Hanna Krisha, and Hannah Lyons. Monroeville finished the regular season with 23 wins and a second-place finish in the FC. The Eagles beat Mohawk in a district semifinal after losing to the Warriors in the district tournament in each of the previous two seasons. Playing for a district championship for the first time ever, against Lucas, the game went into extra innings with a 4-4 tie. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Meisler reached base on a walk, advanced on a bunt single by Carper, and moved to third on a sacrifice fly by Scheid. Hayes then delivered a deep fly ball to center field, allowing Meisler to tag and score the winning run for program history The Eagles continued their tournament run with an easy run-rule win over McDonald in a regional semifinal at historic Firestone Stadium in Akron. Monroeville lost to defending state champion Hillsdale, 5-0, in the regional title game. Helmstetter, Carper, Scheid, Hayes, and Hershiser earned FC recognition, with Helmstetter also receiving Northwest District and All-Ohio first team honors. Coached by Abe Helmstetter, Jordan Williams, and Tracy Rosser, the 2019 team set a new standard as pioneers for the program with their historic tournament run. The program later reached back-to-back state championship games in 2024 and 2025.
