Western wins host Munroe Invitational

COLLINS — Host Western Reserve held off Norwalk in the team standings on a day when three area wrestlers earned their 100th career victories at Saturday's Terry Munroe Memorial tournament. The Roughriders totaled 230.5 points to finish ahead of the Truckers (220) and New London (188) among 13 teams in the field. Willard (152) was sixth, and South Central (148) was seventh. Western had three individual champions, led by Anthony Lierenz at 126 pounds, where he won the bracket and earned career win No. 100 in the process. Lierenz went 5-0 with five victories via pin in 1:53, 55 seconds, 1:11, 1:13, and 3:46 in the finals over Ashland's Drake Martin. At 120, Chance Warthling also placed first for Western. He went 5-0 with three pins in 1:25, 2:27, and 1:12 that were bookended by technical fall wins by scores of 15-0 and 22-6. Jaxson Davidson was Western's third champion at 138. He had four pins in 35 seconds, 5:34, 1:48, and 1:15 before a 12-7 decision in the finals over Willard's Luke Slone. Placing second for the 'Riders was Colson Lutz (106), Lucas Summerfield (113), Landen Barnhart (144), and Kohler Graves (150). Riley Lutz (132) also placed third for Western. The Truckers took a run at Western with 10 total placers and four individual champions across the 14 weight classes. Aldynn Metzger (132), Adam Goebel (165), Gavin Lepley (175), and Cooper Gee (285) each won titles for Norwalk. Metzger, who also earned his 100th win on the day, pinned all five of his opponents in 2:16, 1:07, 1:15, 49 seconds, and 1:05 in the finals over Ashland's Paxton Young. Goebel went 5-0, which started with four pins in 56 seconds, 2:38, 3:16, and 49 seconds before an 11-8 win in sudden victory over New London's Ethan Koch. Lepley pinned two opponents in 2:52 and 49 seconds before a 5-4 win over New London's Hunter Chandley at 175. Gee went 5-0 with a 14-3 major decision and four pins in 1:59, 17 seconds, 3:14, and 5:46 in the finals over Sylvania Southview's Alex Genson. Also for Norwalk, Ayden Hudson Brown was second at 157. He was followed by Brayden Thornberry (113), Titus Roth (126), and Luis Ramirez (215) in fifth, while Victor Negrete (138) and Ben Marett (150) each placed sixth. Keith Squire was champion for New London at 215. He went 6-0, all by pins, with times of 1:09, 28 seconds, 25 seconds, 41 seconds, 48 seconds, and 2:41. Also for New London, Koch (165) and Oliver Harrison (190) each placed second. David Hostetler (150) and Chandley (175) both placed third, while David Goble (144) and Jayden Bracken (157) were fourth. Tyler Kidd (113) and Tristen Howell (126) each placed sixth. For Willard, after Slone placed second, both Logan Williams (157) and Kainen Lindsey (190) each placed third. Trent Hart (126) was fourth, followed by Jackson Steinmetz (132), Jose Lopez (144), and Gavin Patton (285), who were fifth, and Jayden Silva (165), who placed sixth. The Trojans had three individual champions in Wyatt Martin (113), Cole Frankart (150), and Greyson Fisher (157). Martin was 6-0, starting with a 21-4 technical fall and finishing with a 7-3 decision over Western's Summerfield. He also had four pins in 1:54, 1:09, 1:06, and 2:41. Frankart, who also earned career win No. 100, went 5-0 at 150. He had three pins in 1:46, 1:26, and 1:44 before claiming two narrow wins. He beat Ashland's Nevin LaRue, 2-1, then topped Western's Graves, 9-8, to claim first. Fisher had two technical fall wins by scores of 22-3 and 18-2 along with a pin in 1:12 before claiming a 9-7 win in the finals over Norwalk's Hudson Brown. Also for South Central, Hamons (215) was second, while Justin Gillum (165) was fourth and Corbin Barber (144) placed sixth. Edison fourth at Clyde CLYDE — The Chargers finished behind host Clyde (192), Perrysburg B (181.5), and Delaware Hayes (175) to place fourth among 23 schools on Saturday at the Dale Carroll Invitational. Edison had two champions and one other finalist to lead the way. At 106, freshman Cohen Reer went 4-0 to win the weight class, while Joel Smith went 5-0 to claim first at heavyweight (285). Reer had two pins in 55 seconds and 1:05 and a pair of technical fall wins, a 16-1 win in the semifinals and a 16-0 win in the finals over Lorain's DJ Otero. Smith opened with three straight pins in 59 seconds, 5:12, and 4:54 before an 8-1 win put him in the finals, where he pinned Toledo Bowsher's Jayden Johnson in 2:41. Placing second for Edison was Xander Gfell-King (132). Gfell-King had three straight pins in 38 seconds, 1:27, and 2:58 before also falling by fall to Perrysburg's Hughie Carpenter in 3:23 in the finals. He also earned his 100th career win at the tournament. Also for Edison, Brayden Barker (113) was third and Urijah Ojeda (120) was fourth. Both Josiah Walbom (157) and Jeffery Collinsworth (165) placed fifth. Big Red seventh at Garaway SUGARCREEK — Plymouth totaled 89.5 points among five placers to finish seventh among 17 teams on Saturday at the Sugarcreek Garaway Peg Leg Scuffle. Thomas Winegardner took first at 120 for the Big Red. He had three pins in his pool in 41 seconds, 1:06, and 51 seconds along with a 17-2 technical fall. He needed 1:08 in the finals to pin Minerva's Shawn Weaver in the finals. Also for the Big Red, Levi Foley (106) and Isaiah Miller (175) each placed fourth, while Ben Trimmer (144) and Parker Miller (165) each placed fifth.
