Norwalk swimming sweeps Huron in home finale

The Norwalk High School swim teams hosted Huron on Jan. 20 at the Ernsthausen Rec Center pool and won both the boys and girls meets against the Tigers. The event also served as Senior Night for Anthony Hall, Alex Christophel, and Autumn Cross. The Truckers won the girls meet, 84-53, and cruised to a 114-28 win on the boys side. Individual winners for the NHS girls included Amara Rodriguez (28.16 seconds) in the 50-yard freestyle; Saige Konik in the 100 free (1:06.3); Becca Farmer in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.5), and Kylah Daniels in the 100 backstroke (1:19.16). In relays, the 200 medley of Daniels, Farmer, Rodriguez, and Allison Rothhaar won in 2:17.57. The 200 free relay of Konik, Daniels, Raena Ringenberg, and Rodriguez won in 1:59.92, while the 400 free relay of Daniels, Sofia Stahl, Konik, and Rodriguez posted a winning time of 4:34.26. Individual winners for the boys included Eli Loudy in the 200 free (2:21.16) and the 500 free (6:19.11), while Lincoln Snyder won both the 200 IM (2:28.13) and 100 butterfly (1:01.03). Braydan Weinert won the 50 free (26.43), while Greg Keefe (1:02.44) won the 100 free; LJ Odell had the top time in the 100 backstroke (1:27.75); and Anthony Hall won the breaststroke (1:15.23). In relays, the 200 medley of Canyon Craig, Hall, Snyder, and Keefe won in 1:58.67. The 200 free quartet of Snyder, Christophel, Craig, and Weinert (1:46.2) also won, as did the 400 free relay of Alex and Aaron Christophel, Loudy, and Weinert (4:09.87). "Although many of the swimmers did not set personal records, they came out strong," NHS head coach Nikki Cross said. "We had a few swimmers venture outside their comfort zone by participating in events that were outside their norm, as is typically on Senior Night." Norwalk heads the Ontario Invitational on Saturday.
