Norwalk boys fall at Shelby

SHELBY — The Norwalk boys basketball team lost, 78-44, in a non-league game against host Shelby Tuesday night. The Truckers fell to 0-13 overall with the loss. The Whippets led 16-6 after one quarter and 37-20 at halftime. They extended the lead to 58-34 through three quarters before outscoring the Truckers by a 20-10 margin in the final eight minutes. For Norwalk, Xavier Saunders scored 12 points and grabbed three rebounds. Nolan Jones had nine points and four rebounds, while Josh King had eight points and six rebounds. Also for the Truckers, Caiden Schmidt finished with six points, four rebounds, and three assists. Brandon Carey had four points and four rebounds, while Kingston Gonzales had four assists. Norwalk's challenging road stretch continues Thursday with an SBC Lake Division game at Sandusky (8-6, 4-1). Andrew Klett led the way with a 219-177—396 series, followed by Ashton Kolk (171-188—359), and Kevin Mills (171-182—353). "The boys bowled really well overall," NHS head coach Drew Burge said. "They got off to a hot start and carried it through till the end. They picked with their spares and showed consistency as the night went along." Other top games for Norwalk included Jacob Rockwell (170), Eli Keefer (158), Orion Herber (143), and Ben Rockwell (112). The Truckers host Port Clinton on Thursday. "They have three straight tough matchups ahead that will test them as a team," Burge said. "It should be fun to watch.
