ICE protests in Norwalk, Sandusky

NORWALK —About 50 people in Norwalk and 20 in Sandusky braved the cold temperatures on Saturday to protest against a litany of issues, including the immigration and Customs Enforcement crackdowns, the killing of Renee Good in Minneapolis by government agents and what they see as a "slide into fascism." Kate Rivet, spokesperson for Firelands Indivisible, the group that organized the protests, was impressed with the number of attendees, despite the cold weather. "It was very encouraging to see such a nice turnout of local people who want to see the Constitution upheld and defend the rights of anyone who steps foot in this country," she said. Rivet was encouraged by those not attending the event as well. "The vast majority of the responses from passersby was positive," she said. "There are a lot more people here in Norwalk that are tired of the actions of this administration." The event included a short speech by Brenda Buchanan, candidate for Ohio House District Four. Following the speech, the group walked from Suhr Park to the courthouse, where they continued the messaging. In Sandusky, the event was held in front of the Sandusky Mall, with about 20 people holding signs.
