Western, Plymouth win FC games

COLLINS — The Western Reserve boys basketball team put four players in double-digits in a 78-54 win over visiting Mapleton on Jan. 17 in a Firelands Conference matchup. The Roughriders improved to 7-5 overall and 5-2 in the FC. They remain two games behind Plymouth (9-2, 7-0) with both head-to-head games left to play against the Big Red. Chase Hipp paced Western with 19 points and five rebounds, while Hayden Dobias had 17 points with five rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Also for the Roughriders, Caleb Pausch had 15 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Tyler Cooper had 14 points and five rebounds. Hayden Keith added seven rebounds and four steals for Western, which had a 16-5 edge in steals and a 15-8 advantage in assists over the Mounties (0-10, 0-7). Western hosts New London on Friday. Central 48 PLYMOUTH — The Big Red limited visiting South Central to six points in the third quarter, allowing them to turn a 36-32 deficit into a 41-36 lead entering the final eight minutes of Saturday's FC win. Plymouth (9-2, 7-0) didn't score a basket in the third quarter until just over two minutes remained. Izaya Reynolds paced Plymouth with 16 points, followed by Jarrett Burrer with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Lex Grose added seven points. In the fourth quarter, the Trojans (6-6, 2-5) were able to stay within a possession at several points, but never grabbed the lead again. Bryan Chaffee finished wiht 14 points, six rebounds, three assists, and four steals for South Central. Willard 61, Huron 47 WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes made 11 three-pointers in Saturday's SBC Bay Division win over the Tigers Saturday night inside Robert L. Haas Gymnasium. Willard's leading scorer, Jaxson Hall, was held to six points and the game was tied at 26 at halftime before it pulled away with a 35-21 scoring edge in the second half. Mason Dawson connected on six 3s and scored 26 points for Willard, which also got 11 points from Kaleb Weaver and nine from JJ Bedingfield. The Flashes host Edison on Friday in league play. Vermilion (6-8, 1-5) defeated Edison, 86-73, back on Dec. 13 at home. This time, the Chargers held the visitors to 25 less points in the win. Cole Leimeister and Coltyn Meagrow helped erase a one-point halftime deficit by scoring 26 and 20 points, respectively. Kyle Robinson added 13 points for Edison (5-7, 2-4), which will head to Firelands (4-9) for a non-league game on Tuesday. GIRLS BASKETBALL Norwalk 70, Sandusky 35 SANDUSKY — Trinity Lazzara flirted with a triple-double as the Truckers cruised to an SBC Lake Division road win over the host Blue Streaks. Lazzara finished with 19 points on 9-of-19 shooting and grabbed 10 rebounds with six assists as Norwalk improved to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in the league. Also for Norwalk, Jo Jackson had 12 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals. Emmie Leber and Bella Hernandez each added eight points for the Truckers, who return to the court Tuesday at Mansfield Madison (8-6) in a key game within their Division III Northwest District RPI group. The Truckers are currently No. 2 and the Rams are fourth in Northwest Group C.
