Unbeaten Perkins surges past Norwalk

NORWALK — In a game that featured 17 made three-point baskets, it was unbeaten visiting Perkins that made 10 of those shots beyond the arc in a 68-42 win over host Norwalk Friday night in an SBC Lake Division contest. Perkins — the No. 4 ranked team in Division IV according to MaxPreps — improved to 13-0 overall and 5-0 in the league. The Truckers fell to 0-12 overall and 0-5 in the league. Norwalk jumped ahead 5-2 behind an Xavier Saunders 3 and Kingston Gonzales layup. After that, Perkins responded with an 8-0 run to take a 10-5 lead. Norwalk answered right back with another 6-0 run to take the lead back at 11-10. Perkins then got the first of six 3s on the night from Sam Schweinfurth to lead 13-11. After one quarter, the Pirates led 16-13. A key to the game featured big starts to the middle quarters. The second quarter saw Perkins use an 8-0 run to take a 24-13 advantage behind six points from Levi Groot. In the frame, Groot had 10 of Perkins' 15 points. After seeing the lead bloom to 29-13, Norwalk continued to fight. The Truckers answered back with an 8-0 run to make the score 29-21. The Pirates entered halftime with a 31-23 lead. The third quarter saw Schweinfurth catch fire as he buried four 3s in the quarter and helped spark an 11-0 run to start the eight minutes that blew the game wide open. In the fourth quarter, both teams went back and forth in the scoring column as Perkins won the quarter 16-9. In the victory, the Pirates were paced by Schweinfurth with a game-high 24 points and Levi Groot with 18. Perkins had nine players in the scoring column on the night. For Norwalk, Saunders paced them with 17 points while Gonzales had eight points. It gets no easier for the Truckers when they travel to Shelby (7-3) Tuesday night for a non-league game before visiting Sandusky (7-6, 4-1) on Thursday. New London (1-3, 8-0 FC) led 29-24 through three quarters before outscoring Western Reserve by nine in the fourth quarter. Raeann Mitchell made three 3s and scored 13 points for the Wildcats while Valery Henry added 12 points and Gracie Thomas scored eight.
