Board members sworn in

NEW LONDON — One new member and two reelected members were sworn in to the New London Schools board of education Monday by Treasurer Jim Hudson. Jennifer Ball was sworn in after being elected to her first term by voters this past November in an election where Bill Given and Domenic Maiani retained their seats. In addition to routine matters, members approved a one-year contract for van driver Tami Haupricht, effective Jan. 6, and the retirement of transition teacher Yvonne Boswell, effective June 1. A list of board policy revisions was passed on second reading and then adopted. These included issues such as alcohol and drug testing, expense reimbursement, student health services and first aid. Preschool tuition was raised $5 a month to $155 for the 2026-27 school year, and the calendar for that year was adopted. For students, school starts Sept. 1 and ends June 3. A donation for the band of $1,000 from Firelands Veterans was accepted, and the IRS rate of $0.725 a mile reimbursement, retroactive to Jan. 1, was adopted. A Nov. 18-22 trip for the high school music department trip to Boston/Plymouth, Massachusetts, for the Thanksgiving parade was accepted. Tiffany Green was elected board president for the year and Dominic Maiani vice president. Meetings will continue at 7 p.m., the third Monday of each month in the board office.
