Four area teams pick up non-league wins

WILLARD — The Willard boys basketball team raced out to a 20-point halftime lead and defeated Clear Fork for a 58-43 for a non-conference victory .Tuesday night inside Robert L. Haas Gymnasium Kaleb Weaver led five Crimson Flashes in double figures with 14 points. Mason Dawson added 13, JJ Bedingfield finished with 11 and Jaxson Hall and Gage Stover each scored 10 points for Willard, which improved to 11-2 overall. For Edison (4-7), which has won four of five after an 0-6 start, Coltyn Meagrow scored a game-high 26 points and Cole Leimeister was just behind him with 22 points. Also for Edison, Kyle Robinson and Connor Goodwin each scored eight points. The Chargers host Vermilion in an SBC Bay game on Saturday. New London (12-3) was paced by a balanced scoring attack. Raeann Mitchell and Gracie Thomas each scored 14 points, while Valery Henry added 12. Pailee Wilson also scored eight points in the win for NL, which looks to win a 37th straight Firelands Conference game Friday when it hosts Western Reserve. For Norwalk (8-4), Emmie Leber scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds, and Jo Jackson finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Trinity Lazzara added 11 points and six rebounds, while CJ Bennett had 11 points, and Alyssa Gruhlke had four points, nine rebounds, six assists and four steals. SWIMMING Schag wins two SBC events PORT CLINTON — Willard standout sophomore swimmer Phebe Schag won two events on Jan. 10 at the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division championships held at Port Clinton High School. Schag broke her own program record in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:05.49. She also won the 200 freestyle in 2:11.02. For the Willard boys, Lucas Winans was third in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.55, while Levi Schag was fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.64. The Crimson Flashes were fourth with 57 points among seven teams. JUNIOR HIGH NMS teams beat Sandusky NORWALK — The Norwalk Middle School basketball teams were again successful Monday night against Sandusky in SBC Lake Division play. The eighth-grade boys team defeated the Blue Streaks, 48-35, behind a game-high 24 points from Blake Muskovich. Jacob Tyler scored 13 points, followed by Jose Benavides (6), Ryker Crumrine (4), and Reid Thompson (1). The seventh-grade team improved to 8-0 (5-0 SBC Lake) by cruising past the previously unbeaten Streaks, 43-25, as Benny Sellers also had a game-high 24 points, including six 3-pointers. Maddox Gamble added 12 points, followed by Lincoln King (4), and Eli Schmidt (3). The NMS boys visit Tiffin Columbian on Wednesday. The eighth-grade girls also improved 8-0 and 5-0 in the league with a 39-4 win over Sandusky as Londynn Clifton scored 14 points. Stella Kipp followed with 12 points. NMS also got points from Brynn Sellers (4), Layla Koch (3), and the quartet of Lilli Kipp, Krista Bergman, Ella Ames, and Lexi Schmidt with two points each. The NMS girls host Columbian on Wednesday.
