Library to host Route 66 centennial event

MILAN — A local library will be one of the first stops in Ohio for a special program marking the 100th anniversary of Route 66. As part of America 250, the Victor Samalot Duo will launch its 2026 program schedule with a presentation at noon Jan. 31 at the Milan Public Library, 19 Church St., Milan. The program is free and open to the public. The Route 66 centennial program combines live music, storytelling and historical insights to explore the cultural impact and enduring legacy of what is often called America's iconic highway. The presentation is designed to highlight how Route 66 shaped communities, travel and popular culture over the past century. The Milan event is part of a series of programs scheduled to appear at select Ohio libraries beginning in January. The duo's stop in Milan serves as an early kickoff for the statewide tour tied to the Route 66 centennial celebration. Route 66, which marks its 100th anniversary in 2026, has long been associated with cross-country travel, roadside attractions and the growth of towns along its path. The program aims to reflect on that history while connecting audiences to the stories and music inspired by the highway. The event will take place inside the library and is open to all ages.
