Norwalk boys, girls place fourth at SBC championships

PERKINS TWP. — The Norwalk boys and girls swim teams placed fourth overall on Saturday at the Sandusky Bay Conference swim championships held at Perkins High School. The girls team totaled 101 points and were led by three third-place finishes in the relays. The 200-yard medley of Becca Farmer, Sofia Stahl, Saige Konik, and Amara Rodriguez finished third in a time of 2:17.17. The 200 freestyle of Konik, Rodriguez, Kylah Daniels, and Raena Ringenberg also placed third in 1:58.97. The 400 free relay team of Daniels, Ringenberg, Rodriguez, and Stahl posted a third-place time of 4:33.31. Individually for the NHS girls, Daniels was fourth in both the 100 backstroke (1:18.61) and the 200 IM (2:50.11). Rodriguez was also fourth in the 100 butterfly (1:18.92), as was Konik in the 100 free in 1:08.27. For the Trucker boys, Lincoln Snyder was second in the 100 butterfly (58.66), which is also a new personal-best time for the junior. Canyon Craig was third in the 100 butterfly in 1:01.72 and also third in the 100 backstroke (1:07.26). Anthony Hall was fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.13. In relays, the team of Snyder, Craig, Hall and junior Braydan Weinert also finished second in the 200 medley in 1:54.79. In the 200 free relay, Snyder, Craig, Weinert, and Alex Christophel placed fourth (1:43.61), while the 400 free relay of Snyder, Weinert, Aaron Christophel, and Eli Loudy also finished fourth in 3:58. "Several of the swimmers set personal records today, contributing points to our overall score along the way," Norwalk head coach Nikki Cross said. "The teams in our conference are great competition for our swimmers and push them to swim harder, which is always a win for us regardless of the score. "They start to begin to see what they are capable of and get excited for the next opportunity to race," she added. "As a coach, that's what we strive for, to ignite a fire in all of our swimmers and help them realize their potential." Also from the area, Edison's Jacoby Valimont won the 100 butterfly ahead of Norwalk's Snyder with a time of 57.1 seconds. Valimont was also fourth in the 100 free in 55.87 seconds. Norwalk will participate in the Craig Johnson Invitational at Danbury High School on Saturday (Jan. 17).
