Coming soon: 'Movies and More'

NORWALK — The Firelands Symphony Orchestra will present its free annual family concert for all ages. The family concert, titled "Movies and More," will take place on Sunday, Jan. 25 at the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center, 350 Shady Lane Drive, in Norwalk. Parking is available at the venue at Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center, which is located at Norwalk High School. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. Free children and family activities start at 3 p.m. This concert is completely free and open to the public. Among the event's sponsors: the Geotrac Foundation of Huron County, the Randolph J. & Estelle M. Dorn Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council. While the concert is free and open to the public, free-will donations will be accepted. What to expect At 3 p.m., before the concert, children and families can enjoy hands-on crafts and musical activities, including various games for all ages, coloring, snacks, a photo area and make-and-take crafts. The concert, which begins at 4 p.m., will feature the Firelands Symphony Orchestra under the direction of music director and conductor Carl Topilow. The concert's "Movies and More" theme is "designed as a fun, family-friendly celebration of music from the big screen and beyond," according to a symphony statement. "Audiences of all ages are invited to enjoy a program that feels like a trip to the movies where familiar melodies instantly spark imagination and memories," it added. "From adventurous heroes and animated favorites to classic tunes that have delighted generations, this concert offers an easygoing and entertaining experience that families can enjoy together." The program features a mix of iconic movie music and well-known orchestral favorites, including selections from "Star Wars," "Superman," "Harry Potter," "Spider-Man," "Jaws" and "Pirates of the Caribbean." "These cinematic highlights are paired with classics, such as the lively finale of Rossini's 'William Tell Overture,' Strauss's graceful 'Blue Danube Waltz,' Sousa's 'Liberty Bell March'; and Verdi's powerful 'Anvil Chorus,'" the statement read. "Younger audience members will especially enjoy playful selections, like Leroy Anderson's 'Old MacDonald' and the instantly recognizable 'SpongeBob SquarePants' theme, making this a concert that truly has something for everyone," it added.
