South Central, NL fall in FC play

GREENWICH — The South Central boys basketball team was outscored by seven points in the second quarter of an eight-point loss, 62-54, to visiting Crestview Saturday night in a Firelands Conference matchup. With the loss, the Trojans fell to 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the FC. Senior Bryan Chaffee led all scorers with 28 points on 11-of-22 shooting, and he also grabbed seven rebounds. Wes June had 14 points, seven rebounds, and six assists for the Trojans, while Dom Paynter added 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Crestview (3-4, 2-2) was paced by Karter Goon with 22 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. The Trojans visit Mapleton (0-6, 0-4) on Jan. 3. Plymouth 52, New London 40 PLYMOUTH — The Wildcats fell to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the FC with Saturday's road loss to the host Big Red, who remain atop the league standings. Plymouth is 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the FC ahead of its game on Jan. 3 at Crestview. The Wildcats host Monroeville (4-2, 3-1) on the same night. S. Central 60, B. Central 56 NEW WASHINGTON — The Trojans led the host Bucks 31-21 at halftime, but saw that lead disappear in the third quarter before recovering for a road non-league win on Dec. 23. South Central trailed 44-43 after three quarters thanks to the Bucks (1-6) using a 23-12 scoring edge in the eight minutes. The Trojans then outscored the hosts 17-12 in the fourth quarter. June finished with 22 points, six steals, three rebounds, and three assists for South Central. Chaffee had 18 points, six rebounds, five steals and three assists. Paynter added seven points and three assists.
