St. Paul tops Western for fifth win

NORWALK — The St. Paul girls basketball team limited visiting Western Reserve to single-digits in each of the four quarters of Tuesday's 32-17 win in Firelands Conference play inside Harvey Keller Gymnasium. With the win, the Flyers improved to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the FC. That win total in 10 games matches the combined wins over the past two seasons. Deanna Vazquez paced S.t Paul with eight points, while Peyton Barman and Raeleigh Friend each added six points. Western Reserve fell to 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the FC with the loss. St. Paul travels to Danbury (4-4) for a non-league game on Saturday, while the Roughriders host Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic. New London (8-2, 4-0) has won 33 straight conference games and got 22 points from Valery Henry in the victory. Pailee Wilson and Olivia Yetter each scored 12 points, while Raeann Mitchell added nine for the Wildcats. Monroeville (2-7, 1-4 FC) was led by Lilly Stein with seven points and Sophia Stieber with six points in the loss. Norwalk (5-2) missed 10 free throws in the one-possession loss. Emmie Leber paced the Truckers with 18 points and seven rebounds, and Trinity Lazzara scored 15 points with five assists and four steals. Alyssa Gruhlke added seven points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Jo Jackson had six points and nine rebounds. The Truckers are off until Dec. 30 when they host Oak Harbor (8-2) in another non-league test.
