Western rallies past NL for road win

NEW LONDON — The Western Reserve boys basketball team was outscored 27-8 in the second quarter, but overcame a double-digit halftime deficit for a 60-53 win over host New London Thursday night for a Firelands Conference victory. Cooper Roe had 19 points and six rebounds for the Roughriders (3-2, 2-0), while Chase Hipp had 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Tyler Cooper added six points and eight rebounds. For New London (3-1, 1-1), Henry Thomas scored 20 points, followed by Grady Heileman with 11 and Jaxson Schaffer with nine. GIRLS BASKETBALL Willard 41, Crawford 35 WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes survived a two-point third quarter Wednesday night to improve to 5-1 and hand the Eagles their first loss of the season in a non-conference game inside Robert L. Haas Gymnasium. Willard led 11-8 after one quarter and 25-15 at halftime, but was outscored 6-2 in the third quarter to take a 27-21 lead into the final eight minutes. Reese Bedingfield scored nine points for Willard, followed by Leah Weiss and Camryn Wiers with seven points each. The Flashes host Vermilion Saturday in an SBC Bay Division game.
