St. Paul girls top Norwalk, Vermilion

NORWALK — Crosstown St. Paul and Norwalk met along with Vermilion and Edison Tuesday night in a non-league swim meet hosted by the Truckers at the Ernsthausen Recreation Center pool. In the girls matchups, St. Paul defeated Vermilion, 72-6, and Norwalk, 53-39. The Truckers topped the Sailors, 65-4. In boys scoring, the Sailors beat the Flyers (77-12) and the Truckers (49-44), while Norwalk bested St. Paul, 71-11. Highlighting the winners Tuesday, St. Paul's Elaina Coriell broke the program record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.87. The previous mark of 1:06.91 was set in 2017 by Paige Wnek. Coriell also won the 200 freestyle in 2:23.77 for St. Paul, while Jocelyn Welter won the 50 (28.31) and 100 (1:03.59) freestyle races. Kennadie Frazee also won a pair of events in the 100 butterfly (1:12.13) and the 200 IM (2:32.07). In relays, St. Paul won the 200 medley as Coriell, Sarah Gocsik, Frazee, and Welter posted a time of 2:10.09. The 400 free relay of the same four swimmers won in 4:26.33. For Norwalk, the 200 free relay of Saige Konik, Kylah Daniels, Raena Ringenberg, and Amara Rodriguez won the race in 2:00.13. Daniels won the 500 free in 6:48.73, while Izzy Sanders took first in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.36). In the boys races, Norwalk's 200 medley relay of Canyon Craig, Anthony Hall, Lincoln Snyder, and Raymond McCreary won in 1:54.61. In the 100 butterfly, Edison's Jacoby Valimont took first in 58.91 seconds. Norwalk heads to the Margaretta Invitational on Dec. 23. St. Paul will travel to Wooster on Dec. 29 as Cloverleaf hosts the Stampede Invitational. BOWLING P.C. defeats Norwalk PORT CLINTON — The Truckers dropped a pair of matches to the host Redskins at Twin Star Lanes Tuesday night. The boys lost 2,338-2,090 with Andrew Klett rolling a 214-148—362 series. He was closely followed by Ashton Kolk (162-192—354) and Kevin Mills (166-186—352), while Jacob Rockwell added a 122-106—228 series. Eli Keefe added a 158 game for the Truckers. The girls team took a 1,641-1,269 loss to host P.C. Gabbi Tomasulo paced the team with a 101-144—245 series. She was followed by Cassie Scott (105-128—223), Ana McClimans (101-80—181), Ary Winkler (65-109—174), and Mae Fox (82-82—164). "Another tough conference match for the boys," NHS head coach Drew Burge said. "They are grinding it out every match and are working on being more consistent, and I think they will break through soon. "We had some great effort from the girls tonight, and that translated into some season-high games," he added. "It is a fun group with a great attitude, who just keep getting better and better."
