NL extends FC streak to 30 straight

COLLINS — The New London girls basketball team broke open a tie after one quarter by limiting host Western Reserve to just 17 points the rest of the way in a 37-27 Firelands Conference win Thursday night. New London improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the FC with the win. The Wildcats have won 30 consecutive FC games following Thursday's victory. Raeann Mitchell led NL with 13 points and Pailee Wilson added 11. For Western (2-4, 1-2), Laykan Barnhart scored 12 points. New London visits St. Paul on Saturday, while the Roughriders visit Edison next Tuesday. In their sixth game of the season, the Flyers have surpassed last season's win total both overall and in the Firelands Conference (3-21, 1-13). One more win would match St. Paul's win total from the past two seasons. In the win, Raeleigh Friend had 14 points and Aubrie Bogard had nine for the Flyers. Ella Kalizewski also added eight points, and Annie Friend scored seven. For South Central (3-2, 1-2), Ember Phillips scored 12 points, followed by Emily Lamoreaux and Falynn Schumacher with eight points each. The Trojans host Crestline next Tuesday. ST.
