St. Paul grad Skinn earns third All-American honor

LEXINGTON, Ky. — St. Paul graduate Josie Skinn recently concluded her record-breaking career at NCAA Division II Fairmont State University. On Dec. 10, Skinn was honored as an All-American as an honorable mention selection by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). A 2022 SPH graduate, Skinn is the first player to be a three-time All-American for the volleyball program at the Fairmont, W. Va. school. Skinn also earned Atlantic Region first team honors. The recognition came after she was named the Mountain East Conference Libero of the Year. Nationally, Skinn ranked fifth in total digs (662) and 12th in digs per set (5.47). In the MEC tournament, she also became the all-time leader in career digs at Fairmont State, which ended at 2,218 total. The Hawks (23-11) ended their season in an NCAA Atlantic Regional match against IUP in Erie, Pa. on Dec. 4. As a freshman in 2022, Skinn was second on the team in digs (268) and aces (32) in helping the Falcons reach the NCAA tournament. As a sophomore in 2023, Skinn finished with 632 digs, and was MEC first team and first made the all-Region and All-American teams. She also earned Div. II ADA Academic Achievement honors as well as making the MEC Commissioners' Honor Roll. As a junior in 2024, Skinn had 656 digs and was again the MEC Libero of the Year and a first-team selection. At St. Paul, Skinn was a two-time All-Firelands Conference first team selection and once to the second team. She finished with 1,256 career digs for the Lady Flyers, who won three conference titles in that span. Dawson averaging double-figures ASHLAND — Redshirt freshman Max Dawson is contributing early for the NCAA Div. II Ashland University men's basketball team. Through eight games for the Eagles (6-2), Dawson is averaging 10.4 points and has 14 rebounds and six assists in 22.4 minutes per game off the bench. A 2024 Willard graduate, Dawson broke his foot and missed all of last season. He scored 1,849 career points for the Crimson Flashes as a three-time All-Ohio selection, including first team as a senior. Dawson was also a two-time SBC Bay Division Player of the Year and an OPSMA Northwest District POY honor in Div. II at Willard. AU was scheduled to host Kentucky Wesleyan Thursday night in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference game at Kates Gymnasium. Roeder off to strong start WOOSTER — In his fourth year, Monroeville graduate Isaac Roeder is the second-leading scorer for the NCAA Div. III College of Wooster men's basketball team. A 2022 MHS graduate, Roeder averages 14.4 points and 6.6 rebounds in 35.9 minutes per game in seven starts to date for the Scots (3-4). He also has 15 assists and seven steals. Roeder was the FC Player of the Year and earned Northwest District first team and All-Ohio second team honors as a senior for the Eagles in 2021-22. He is the Monroeville all-time leader in career points (1,716) and rebounds (811). Wooster travels to Greencastle, Ind. on Saturday to take on host Depauw in an NCAC game. Two head coaches wrap up seasons Lindsey Llewellyn, a 2016 St. Paul graduate, recently concluded her fourth season as the head coach at NCAA Div. III Washington and Jefferson College. Her team finished 16-13 overall and 11-5 in the Presidents Athletic Conference. In four seasons, the Presidents are 57-52 overall under Llewellyn. In April, she was named a recipient of the AVCA Thirty Under 30 award, which recognizes up-and-coming coaches in different sectors of the sport who serve in a range of roles. At Middle Georgia State University, first-year head coach Cara McFarland wrapped up a 6-22 season as the program transitioned from Div. III to Div. II. MacFarland is a 2017 Norwalk graduate and also played at MGSU from 2017-20, where she was also a three-time captain and all-league performer.
