NL girls claim road win at Wynford

BUCYRUS — The New London girls basketball team overcame a 1-point first quarter to post another big non-league win with a 32-24 victory on Dec. 4 over host Bucyrus Wynford. Trailing 6-1 after one quarter, the Wildcats (3-1) outscored the Royals 31-18 over the final 24 minutes to earn the win. Pailee Wilson had 10 points, while Valery Henry scored nine points for the Wildcats. New London has another stern test Tuesday when it hosts Margaretta (3-0). Vermilion 58, Edison 40 VERMILION — Tied at 15 after one quarter, the Sailors (2-2, 1-0) outscored the Chargers (1-3, 0-1) by an 18-1 margin in the second quarter to take control of Friday's SBC Bay Division win. BOWLING Norwalk boys top Sailors LORAIN — The Norwalk boys bowling team edged host Vermilion, 2,132-2,113, for a league win on Dec. 4 at Rebman Recreation lanes. For Norwalk (2-1, 1-1 SBC), Andrew Klett led the team with a 178-235—413 series. He was followed by Ashton Kolk (216-160—376), and Kevin Mills (178-139—317). Orion Herber added a 144 game, followed by Eli Keefe (137), Jacob Rockwell (130), and Isaac Bohne (126). "It was back and forth all night," Norwalk head coach Drew Burge said. "We took the lead, then Vermilion. After the first baker game, we were tied, then up by six after the second, before finally winning by 19. "I'm super proud how the boys pushed through the adversity of a close, hard-fought match to come up with the win," he added. "They showed incredible resilience and stayed focus every frame." In the girls match, Norwalk lost, 1,721-1,066. Gabbi Tomasulo led the team with a 114-124—238, and was followed by Cassie Scott (116-108—224), Ary Winkler (78-99—177), and Mae Fox (83-89—172). "The girls showed strong teamwork and steady improvement, so there was a lot I liked about the progress the girls made," Burge said. "Despite the loss to a really good team, I felt like the girls demonstrated composure in key frames, and they're building momentum as the season continues." On Dec. 5, the Trucker boys traveled to Fremont and fell to host Clyde, 1,811-1,636, a Plaza Lanes in Fremont. Klett rolled a 136-195—331 series for the Truckers (2-2, 1-2), followed by Mills (127-179—306), Kolk (148-190—238), Keefe (106-118—224), Lucas Bohl (94), and Josan Grimes (84). "The team demonstrated resilience, teamwork and continued to improve," Burge said. "Throughout the match, the team stayed focused, encouraged one another, and showed composure under pressure to work on their adjustments." Norwalk takes on Perkins on Dec. 11.
