Police: Suspect in stolen car arrested in Monroeville

MONROEVILLE — A newly installed network of FLOCK Safety license-plate recognition cameras helped Monroeville police locate and stop a stolen vehicle Tuesday, resulting in the driver's arrest. According to a release from the Monroeville Police Department, officers received a real-time alert from the system indicating a stolen vehicle was traveling through the village. Monroeville officers located the vehicle heading westbound on U.S. 20 near Fort Monroe and conducted a traffic stop. The driver was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Huron County Jail. According to the release, the coordinated response involved more than just village officers. The Huron County Sheriff's Office, including deputies and dispatchers, assisted in tracking and communication, while the Ohio State Highway Patrol also assisted in the stop. The arrest comes shortly after the village completed installation of the automated, high-resolution FLOCK cameras, which scan license plates and notify law enforcement when a vehicle is tied to stolen-vehicle reports, warrants, or other criminal activity, said Monroeville Police Chief Jon Earl. Earl said the technology and teamwork paid off. "The installation of FLOCK cameras has already proven to be a valuable investment in our community's safety," Earl said. "Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Huron County Sheriff's Office, including their deputies and dispatch staff, and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, our officers were able to locate the stolen vehicle quickly and take the suspect into custody without incident. We appreciate the continued partnership and support from our neighboring agencies." Monroeville police said the department remains committed to using modern technology and strong interagency cooperation to keep the village safe and support ongoing investigations.
