South Central tops Crestline for first win

GREENWICH — The South Central boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season with a 70-57 victory over visiting Crestline Tuesday night. With the win, South Central improved to 1-1 overall ahead of Saturday's non-league game at Lucas. In Tuesday's win, South Central led 13-7 after one quarter and 28-26 at halftime. The Trojans then broke the game open with a 26-11 scoring edge in the third quarter. The duo of Wes June and Bryan Chaffee paced the Trojans. June scored 26 points on 12-of-19 shooting and also grabbed 13 rebounds along with two assists and two blocks. Chaffee added 16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and four steals. Also for South Central, Brayden Viock added 12 points, while Dominic Paynter had eight points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Tanner Back added six points, seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. The Trojans held a decisive 48-29 edge in rebounds and 24-11 in assists. They also had 10 steals as a team. South Central was 31-of-70 from the floor, including 29-of-60 from inside the arc. Reserve 76, Firelands 46 COLLINS — The Roughriders opened the season with a dominant win over the visiting Falcons Tuesday night. Hayden Dobias paced Western with 22 points, while Tyler Cooper had 15 points and Evan Goodwin added 11. Hayden Keith added eight points and four rebounds, while Chase Hipp had six points and eight rebounds. The Roughriders were 29-of-60 from the field and made nine 3-pointers, while Firelands was just 1-of-22 from beyond the arc and 16-of-56 for the game. Western also had 19 assists in the 32-minute game, including four from Cooper Roe, and three each from Dobias and Goodwin. The Roughriders will visit Keystone on Saturday, followed by toad trips to Vermilion and Mapleton on Dec. 11-12. Woodmore 76, Edison 66 ELMORE — The Chargers were outscored by 12 points in the second quarter of Tuesday's 10-point road loss to the Wildcats in non-league play. Edison will host South Central on Dec. 9 in a non-league game in Milan. Seneca East 39, Plymouth 38 PLYMOUTH — The Big Red outscored the Tigers 16-8 in the second quarter to take a one-point lead into the final eight minutes, but it wasn't enough in Tuesday's home loss. Just six points were scored in the fourth quarter, including all four points by the Tigers from Jaron Depinet, who scored 11 points to follow Luke Mason's 12. Plymouth is off for seven days and returns to action on Dec. 9 in the Firelands Conference opener at Monroeville. SWIMMING Norwalk hosts tri-meet NORWALK — The Norwalk swim teams split with visiting Tiffin Columbian and Mansfield Madison Tuesday night at the Ernsthausen Rec Center pool. The boys edged Columbian, 48-44, then topped the Rams by a 59-33 score. The girls fell to Columbian, 68-22, but rebounded to top the Rams, 60-26. The boys 200-yard medley relay team of Canyon Craig, Anthony Hall, Lincoln Snyder and Raymond McCreary won with a time of 1:56.35. Also taking first place was the 200 freestyle relay of Snyder, Braydan Weinert, Hall, and McCreary in 1:46.79. Snyder also won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.17 ahead of Craig (1:08.78), while Hall won the 100 breaststroke in 1:17.12. Aaron Christophel took second in the 200 free in 2:30.2, as did McCreary in the 50 free (25.6). Also placing second was the 400 free relay of Craig, Weinert, Eli Loudy and McCreary in 4:05.02. Raena Ringenberg was second in the 200 free for the NHS girls in 2:29.57. The 200 free relay of Kylah Daniels, Saige Konik, Ringenberg and Amara Rodriguez also took second in 2:04.52. The 400 free relay of Allison Rothhaar, Chloe Stanford-Jones, Sofia Stahl and Ringenberg placed second in 4:54.21. The Truckers will be back in action on Saturday at the Friendly House Invite in Mansfield. BOWLING Norwalk falls to Sandusky NORWALK — The Truckers took on the visiting Blue Streaks in an SBC Lake Division match Tuesday night at Kenilee Lanes. The boys team lost, 2,213-2,010. The Truckers were paced by freshman Kevin Mills with a 229-231—460 series. Also for the Truckers, freshman Ashton Kolk rolled a 177-160—337, followed by senior Jacob Rockwell (143-156—299), and freshman Andrew Klett (156,131—287). Freshman Kaiden Kimble added a 185 game. The girls team lost to the Blue Streaks,1,577-1,102. Senior Gabbi Tomasulo had the top score with a 142-125—267, followed by sophomore Cassie Scott (109-139—248), junior Mae Fox (116-102—218), and freshman Aryanna Winkler (102,85—187). "I'm very pleased by the teams as a whole," NHS coach Drew Burge said. "They got better than our last match, and we just need to continue to build off of that progress. They fought hard throughout the match. "We played a really exceptional, well-coached team and we look forward to playing them again." Norwalk is at Vermilion on Thursday and at Clyde on Friday to close out the week.
