New London edges Norwalk in road win

NORWALK — The New London girls basketball team used a 12-4 edge in the second quarter to grab the lead, then held off Norwalk the rest of the way for a 43-42 non-league win Tuesday night in the matchup of two defending league champions. All-Ohio wing Valery Henry led New London with 20 points, while Olivia Yetter added nine points. Norwalk's All-Ohioan, Emmie Leber, also had 20 points in the loss for the Truckers, while Trinity Lazzara added 12 points. New London (2-1) was 15-of-30 for a 50-percent effort from the field, while Norwalk (2-1) was 14-of-37. The Roughriders (1-2) had lost to Keystone and Firelands prior to Monday's victory. Western had 11 different players score in the win, led by Layken Barnhart with seven points and Ava-Grace Thornburg with six points. Western opens Firelands Conference play Saturday at Mapleton. Plymouth (0-3) led 16-14 after one quarter and 28-25 at halftime. The Big Red extended the lead to 38-33 before SMCC outscored them 18-9 in the fourth quarter. Kendyll Tolbert led Plymouth with 20 points. Aly Lewis added eight points, while Madison Conley and Addison Slone each scored six points. Plymouth is off until next Tuesday when it hosts Hillsdale. Edison (1-2) was held to four points in the second quarter in the defeat. Ella Booth led the Chargers with 12 points and 17 rebounds, while Stella Brown and Brooke Dickman added seven points each.
