OHSAA releases third round playoff pairings

COLUMBUS — The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced the pairings for the third round of the football playoffs. The higher seeded teams will host the regional semifinals on Friday. All games kick off at 7 p.m. The better seeded team will serve as the host through the first three rounds of the playoffs. The regional playoffs follow bracket format. Rebracketing will occur for the state semifinals. In Division VII, No. 4 Monroeville (9-2) heads to No. 1 McDonald (11-0) in a Region 25 semifinal. The winner will face either No. 7 East Canton (9-2) or No. 3 Mogadore (10-1) at a site to be determined. In the playoffs for a 20th time, the Eagles picked up postseason victory No. 20 last week with a 34-14 win over Malvertn in a second-round game at Marsh Field. Monroeville and McDonald have never met prior to Friday's game, which will be a two-hour trip for the Eagles and their supporters. The Div. IV Region 14 field features No. 6 Perkins (9-3) at No. 2 Galion (9-2) and No. 4 Lima Bath (9-2) at No. 1 Shelby (11-0). The Norwalk football team took on both the Pirates and Tigers during the regular season, and hosted the Whippets in a scrimmage. Neutral sites will be used beginning in the regional championship games on Nov. 21. The state semifinals will be on Nov. 28, with the state championship games then hosted at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton Dec. 4-6.
