Wiers named OHSVCA District 6 POY

Willard's do-everything senior Camryn Wiers led 10 area players on the annual Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association District 6 selections, which were announced on Nov. 2. Wiers earned Player of the Year honors in Division V for the Crimson Flashes, who won another SBC Bay Division title and a second straight district championship this season. Wiers finished with 307 assists, 243 digs, 217 kills, and served 158 points with 39 aces for Willard, which finished 22-4 overall and 9-1 in the league. Also in Div. V, classmate Natalie Slone (235 kills, 42 blocks, 256 digs) was also first team for Willard. Earning second team was senior Teagan Schaffer (124 kills, 70 blocks, 111 digs) and junior Leah Weiss (237 kills), while junior Alexis Rettig (267 digs) and senior Paige Adams (49 kills, 27 blocks) were third team choices. For Edison, senior Taylor Moore (471 digs) was first team, and classmate Ella Booth (158 kills, 203 digs) was second team. Stella Brown (271 digs) earned third team for the Chargers, as did Dana Preston (183 kills). Macari Harris was honorable mention for the Chargers. Western Reserve senior setter Jamie Muenz (562 assists, 247 digs), who finished with more than 2,000 career assists, was first team for the Roughriders (13-10). Earning second team was seniors Drew Clemons (194 kills, 267 digs) and Emma Hammond (200 kills, 228 digs). Willard's Ashley Bond and Huron's Don Wood, a Norwalk graduate, shared Coach of the Year honors. The Flashes and Tigers each beat each other on the road to share the league title, and each advanced to the same regional and both lost to Marion Pleasant (25-1). In Div. VII, Monroeville junior Addison Homan (744 digs) and senior Alexa Adams (244 kills, 252 digs) were first team selections after helping lead the Eagles (24-2) to the state semifinals this week. Also for Monroeville, seniors Madi Reiber (327 kills) and Ady Adams (275 kills) were both second team, while senior Addison Lyons (512 assists) was third team, and senior Maddy Miller (295 digs) was honorable mention. Monroeville's Kendra Snook shared Coach of the Year honors with Tiffin Calvert's Lori Rombach. The Eagles won their fourth straight Firelands Conference title for the first time ever and won a 10th district title in 16 years; and a sixth regional championship in 11 years. For district champion St. Paul (19-7), junior Ella Kalizewski (290 kills, 44 blocks, 210 digs) was on the first team and classmate Annie Friend (759 assists, 203 digs) was second team. Senior Lily Cuturic (415 digs) and sophomore Brooklyn Cassidy (216 kills) were third team for the Flyers, and Plymouth senior Addison Slone was honorable mention. The district teams were combined for Div. II and Div. III, with Norwalk junior Sawyer Wineman (407 digs) earning a spot on the first team. Also for Norwalk (10-13), sophomore Maddy Gamble (214 kills, 297 digs) was second team, while junior Emily Tyler (598 assists) and sophomore Ainslee King (215 kills, 46 blocks) each finished on third team. In Div. VI, New London seniors Gracie Thomas (323 assists, 290 digs, 265 kills) and Pailee Wilson (328 kills, 79 blocks) were on first team, and classmate Ava Ringler (367 digs) was on third team. For South Central (11-13), seniors Taylor Smith (440 digs) and Autumn Fry (265 kills) each landed on the second team, and Keragin Gray (677 assists) was third team. All district selections will be recognized at the annual All-Star match, set for 7 p.m. Nov. 12 at Norwalk High School.
