Ontario ends Norwalk's season in district semifinal

LEXINGTON — The Ontario girls soccer team cruised past Norwalk in a 6-0 win Wednesday in a Division III district semifinal at Lexington High School. The Warriors — ranked 15th in the latest Div. III MaxPreps state poll — improved to 14-4-1 overall and advanced to the district title match at 12 p.m. Saturday back at Lexington against either No. 9-ranked Celina (15-2-1). The Truckers closed the season with a record of 13-4-2. Ontario defeated Norwalk in the same round a year ago by a 4-0 score. Ontario was relentless from the start. The Warriors took 35 total shots, including 17 shots on goal. That was compared to just seven total shots, including three shots on goal, by the Truckers. The Warriors also had three corner kicks to just one for Norwalk. The scoring opened ominously for Norwalk, as Addi Pittman scored on a ball that deflected off a defender and into the net for a 1-0 lead with 25:57 left in the first half. Pittman then scored again about five minutes later with a blast from close range for a 2-0 lead at the 20:08 mark. That is where things stood at halftime, but then the Warriors piled on in the second half. Hattie Yugovich got behind the Norwalk defense and took an assist from Jordyn Yeager to find the back of the net for a 3-0 lead with 34:31 left in the match. Pittman scored for a third time with a hat trick at the 26:19 mark to push the lead to 4-0. Mia Morton scored on a rebound with 24:44 left, and Yugovich closed the scoring from 18 yards out with 21:33 remaining. Seniors who played their final game for the Truckers included Taryn Temple, Xavi Immel, Audrey Sanders, Ella Andrews, and Katie Aguilera. Over their four years, Norwalk went 51-17-4 with two Sandusky Bay Conference championships and two district appearances.
