Willard's Wiers earns top honor in SBC

Willard senior Camryn Wiers was selected as the Sandusky Bay Conference Bay Division's Most Outstanding Performer, the league announced on Oct. 21. The do-everything senior helped the Crimson Flashes to 20 wins and a share of the league title with Huron for a second straight season. Willard played Edison for a third time in a Division V district semifinal Tuesday night at Seneca East High School in Attica. Entering that match, Wiers had 199 kills, 270 assists, and 210 digs. She had served 124 points with 31 aces. Also for Willard, senior Natalie Slone also made the first team. She entered the district round with 212 kills, 32 blocks, 231 digs, and had served 188 points with 46 aces. Leah Weiss (210 kills, 43 blocks, 219 digs) was second team for the Crimson Flashes, while Teagan Schaffer (104 kills, 57 blocks) and Alexis Rettig (236 digs, 189 points) were each honorable mention. Edison senior Taylor Moore also was selected to the first team. She entered Tuesday with 461 digs and 148 points with 26 aces. Also for the Chargers, seniors Ella Booth (157 kills, 198 digs) and Dana Preston, Edison, Sr. (178 kills, 125 digs) were honorable mention. In the Lake Division, Norwalk (10-13, 4-6) put junior Sawyer Wineman on the first team and sophomore Maddie Gamble on the second team. Wineman finished with 407 digs and served 142 points at a 92 percent success rate with a team-high 32 aces. Gamble finished with 214 kills, 20 blocks, 297 digs, and served 136 points with 20 aces at 97 percent.
