Edison, Willard set up district rematch

WILLARD — The Edison volleyball team topped Western Reserve in three sets to win a Division V sectional championship Thursday night at Willard High School. Edison posted scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 25-23. The No. 4-seeded Chargers (10-13) will face No. 1 Willard (20-3) in a district semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Seneca East High School. During the regular season, Willard beat the Chargers in three sets on Sept. 18 and in four sets on Oct. 7. The Chargers had previously topped the Roughriders in five sets on Sept. 15 in Collins. For Edison, Abby Cloud had eight kills and two blocks, while Macari Harris added six kills and two blocks, and Dana Preston had six kills. Peyton Bissell had 15 assists and served 10 point sixth two aces, while Paige McFadden had 10 assists with five points and five digs. Also for Edison, Taylor Moore had 15 digs and Stella Brown had 14 digs with nine points and two aces. Ella Booth and Kourtney Balde each had three kills, while Booth served eight points with three aces and had five digs. For Western (12-10), Emma Hammond and Drew Clemons each had 10 kills, and Jamie Muenz had 30 assists and 13 digs. Clemons also served 11 points and Stella Blake had seven."I am so proud of my team and the effort they give every time they stepped on the court," Western head coach Lisa Muenz said. Willard 3, Clear Fork 0 WILLARD — In the first match Thursday, the Crimson Flashes cruised in three sets by scores of 25-6, 25-7, and 25-13. Camryn Wiers paced Willard with six kills, three blocks, eight assists, four digs, and served 24-for-25 with 23 points and seven aces. Leah Weiss had nine kills and served 12-for-13 with five aces, while Natalie Slone had five kills, four digs, and served 8-for-9 with three aces. Also for Willard, Mya Stephens was 9-for-10 serving and had 12 assists. Teagan Schaffer was 12-for-12 with nine points, three kills, four blocks, and seven digs. Alexis Rettig added nine digs. "It was great to be able to play a home match to start our postseason," Willard head coach Ashley Bond. "We used strong serving to our advantage tonight to get us off to a good start. When you take the other team's first ball attack out with your serve, it allows you so many more options on offense. "We just need to keep that level of focus when we go to Seneca East on Tuesday." DIVISION VI M. Christian 3, New London 0 NEW WASHINGTON — The Wildcats lost three tough sets to the Flames in a Div. VI sectional title match Thursday at Buckeye Central High School. New London lost the first set, 27-25, after it had held a 24-22 lead. The Flames (12-11) then won the second set, 25-20, before rallying from a 16-8 deficit to win the third set, 25-22. The Wildcats finished with an 11-12 record for the season. BOYS SOCCER Edison 8, Clyde 0 MILAN — The Chargers won their Division IV sectional title match over the visiting Fliers Thursday night. Edison remained unbeaten on the season as it improved to 17-0-1 with the victory. Alex Davidson had a monster game for the Chargers, as he scored six of the team's eight goals. Gavyn Blackburn also scored, and he assisted on four of the eight goals. Carter Jones also added a goal and an assist. The Chargers now face Upper Sandusky (9-9) at 5 p.m. Tuesday in a district semifinal at Shelby High School.
