St. Paul sweeps SMCC in sectional final

NORWALK — The St. Paul volleyball team advanced from a Division VII sectional final with a three-set win over visiting St. Mary Central Catholic on Wednesday inside Harvey Keller Gymnasium. St. Paul (17-6) posted scores of 25-13, 25-9, and 25-15. The No. 3-seeded Flyers will face No. 4 Danbury (12-10) in a district semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Clyde High School. The teams met in the same round a year ago, with the Flyers winning in four sets. On Wednesday, Kegney Stoll paced the Flyers at the net with 13 kills. She was followed by Ella Kalizewski with 10, while Brooklyn Cassidy had five kills and four blocks, and Shealyn Deeter had four kills. Annie Friend served 14-for-15 with three aces and had 30 assists, while Lily Cuturic was 15-for-16 serving with four aces and had 15 digs. Also for the Flyers, Cassidy had 15 digs and Guerra added 11. Monday's district semifinal will make the long trip to Archbold for a district title match at 6 p.m. Wednesday against the winner of No. 5 Edgerton (12-10) and No. 1 Edon (16-6). DIVISION III Ontario 3, Norwalk 2 LEXINGTON — The Truckers dropped the first two sets, then battled back to force a fifth set before the Warriors came out on top in Wednesday's sectional championship at Lexington High School. The No. 4-seeded Warriors (15-8) posted scores of 25-20, 25-19, 15-25, 18-25, and 15-11. In the fifth set, Norwalk trailed 12-10 with the serve, but the Warriors scored three of the final four points to claim the win. For Norwalk, Ainslee King was 24-of-24 hitting with 15 kills. Sydney Moehlman was 33-of-37 with 12 kills, while Maddie Gamble had nine kills and Bella Hernandez added seven. Sawyer Wineman was 15-for-16 serving with three aces and had 22 digs. Emily Tyler had 47 assists and 16 digs, while Gamble was 17-for-17 serving and also had a team-high 29 digs. Also for Norwalk, Lola Schlottere was 12-for-13 serving with two aces and 13 digs, and Reagan Mooney was 19-for-19 serving with an ace. Norwalk finished the season with a 10-13 record. Moehlman and Mooney were the lone seniors. "Definitely not the way we wanted the season to end," Norwalk head coach Sarah Kipp said. "However, I am incredibly proud of the fight that these girls have. As a young team, they work incredibly hard all the time, and they don't ever give up in matches." BOYS SOCCER Vermilion 6, Willard 1 VERMILION — The Crimson Flashes finished 1-14-1 for the season after a sectional semifinal loss to the Sailors in Div. IV action on Oct. 14. GIRLS SOCCER Mansfield Christian 7, Edison 0 MANSFIELD — The Chargers allowed four goals in the first half and three in the second half in a Div. V sectional title match on Oct. 14. Edison ended the season with a record of 5-11-2 overall, and 5-5-1 in the Sandusky Bay Conference.
