FFA member qualifies in district judging

MONREOVILLE — The Monroeville FFA chapter participated in the District Soil Judging Career Development Event on Sept. 23. This year, the chapter had both the Rural and Urban team qualify. The district contest was held in Holmes County this year. Members got to witness what it's like to deal with slope. The soil judging Career Development Event is all about judging the land based on its use. The Rural team judges the land to determine the best farming practices that should be implemented given the conditions. Rural team members were: Isaac Krueger, Cole Perry, Taylor Scheid, Abbie Bores, Trindan Smithson and Garret Loose. The Urban team judges based on developing the land, for example, building a house or installing a septic system. The Urban team consisted of Brycen Dunlap, Maverick Myers, Hayden Ryan, Abecka Ruggles, Lilly Stein and Jared Fries. Teams or individuals have to place in the top five to qualify for the state soil judging contest. This year, our Rural team missed the mark by one, placing 6th overall. The Urban team wasn't far out, finishing 8th place. Individually, we did have one member qualify, placing 3rd overall in the Rural contest: Isaac Krueger.
