Western, S.C. score FC volleyball sweeps

COLLINS — The Western Reserve volleyball team swept visiting Mapleton Thursday night for a Firelands Conference win. The Roughriders (11-8, 6-6) posted scores of 25-13, 25-20, 25-14. Stella Blake led Western with 10 kills and Drew Clemons added seven. Emma Hammond served 19 points and Lilli Jarrett had 10 digs. Jamie Muenz had 19 assists. The 'Riders will host Plymouth for Senior Night on Tuesday. South Central 3, New London 0 GREENWICH — South Central swept New London 25-18, 25-17, 25-17 to improve to 7-12 overall and 4-8 in the Firelands Conference. Chloe Beverly had seven kills, five digs and three aces for the Trojans. Taylor Smith finished with 14 digs and 4 aces. Claire Howell had 10 digs and 2 aces and Zaida Myers added 7 kills, 6 digs and 2 blocks. Willard 3, Port Clinton 1 PORT CLINTON — The Crimson Flashes kept pace with Huron atop the SBC Bay Division standings with Thursday's road win over the Redskins. Willard (15-3, 7-1) posted scores of 21-25, 25-10, 25-14, and 25-15. Leah Weiss finished with 14 kills and 17 digs, while Natalie Slone had eight kills, nine digs, and was 13-for-14 serving with three aces. Camryn Wiers added eight kills, 10 digs, six assists and was 10-for-12 serving with an ace. Also for Willard, Teagan Schaffer was 24-for-24 serving with four aces and had five kills and 14 digs. Emelia Tallman had 16 assists and six digs, while Alexis Rettig was 16-for-18 serving with five aces and 12 digs. Mya Stephens also had eight assists. Huron 3, Edison 0 MILAN — Huron swept Edison 25-18, 25-13, 25-15 to stay tied with Willard atop the SBC Bay. Edison dropped to 8-11, 4-4. BOYS GOLF Beatty, Sword compete at districts BOWLING GREEN — Firelands Conference standouts Brody Sword and Mason Beatty concluded their season Thursday at the Division III district tournament at Stone Ridge golf course. Sword, a senior for New London, shot sides of 43-35 for a 78, which put him 12th overall and just three strokes from advancing to the state championships. He earned second team district honors. Beatty, a freshman for St. Paul, shot a pair of 43s total a final round score of 86, which was 11 strokes off the pace from advancing to state. BOYS SOCCER Edison 2, Port Clinton 0 PORT CLINTON — The Chargers are 8-0-1 and still tied for first place atop the SBC standings after Alex Davidson scored a pair of goals in Wednesday's win. Jose Serna Amaya and Carter Jones each finished with an assist as Edison recorded its eighth shutout win of the season. GIRLS SOCCER Norwalk 6, Clyde 0 NORWALK — The Truckers improved to 11-2-1 overall and 9-1 in the SBC with Thursday's shutout win over the Fliers. Claire Spettle scored four times and had one assist in the win. CJ Bennett scored the other two goals, while Xavi Immel had three asists, and Ella Andrews and Taryn Temple each had one. Norwalk visits Oak Harbor on Saturday. Port Clinton 1, Edison 0 PORT CLINTON — The Chargers were unable to find the scoreboard in Monday's SBC loss o the host Redskins. Ella Rogers made four saves for Edison, which fell to 3-9-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the league. TENNIS Norwalk's Trost advances PORT CLINTON — Norwalk junior Lydia Trost won three matches at Thursday's Division II sectional tournament to advance to the district round next Wednesday, also back at Port Clinton. She opened with a win over St. Mary Central Catholic's Rae Roth (7-6 (6), 6-1) before topping Bellevue's Leeah Hinojosa (6-1, 6-0). She then swept Huron's Emma Barnes (6-0, 6-0). In Saturday's semifinal round to determine seeding, Trost faces SMCC's Rachel Spicer. On Tuesday, Spicer edged Trost in three sets at Norwalk. JUNIOR HIGH NMS volleyball sweeps TIFFIN — The Norwalk Middle School volleyball teams claimed SBC Lake road wins over Columbian Wednesday night. The eighth-grade team won in two sets, 25-13, and 25-15. Londynn Clifton had nine kills and Lilli Kipp finished with seven, while Brynn Sellers had 12 digs, followed by Mia Helton, Clifton and Kipp with three each. Stella Kipp, Olivia Roth, Sellers and Lilli Kipp were 100 percent servers and totaled 18 points for Norwalk. The seventh-grade team improved to 12-2 with a three-set win with scores of 25-10, 23-25, and 25-11. Adelinn Sitterly, Lexi Schmidt and Kayla Naseman led the serving, while Ella James, Schmidt and Harper Gilbert put down kills off assists from Addie Hance and Naseman. Norwalk hosts Perkins and Bellevue on Monday and Wednesday next week before participating in the league tournament on Oct. 11.
