St. Paul goes 1-2 at loaded Crestview Invite

CONVOY — The St. Paul volleyball team took on two state-ranked opponents and went 1-2 at the annual Convoy Crestview Invitational on Saturday. The Lady Flyers drew St. Henry (15-4), the No. 3-ranked team in the Division VI state coaches poll, after making the two-plus hour trip. St. Henry won in two sets with scores of 25-18 and 25-17. In the loss, Ella Kalizewski had seven kills, followed by Brooklyn Cassidy with four. Annie Friend had 16 assists and Lily Cuturic led the defense with 13 digs, while Bella Guerra and Kalizewski each had five. The Flyers (10-5) then pushed host Crestview, which received votes last week in Div. VI, to three sets before falling, 22-25, 25-17, and 25-19. Cassidy had 10 kills in the loss, while Kalizewski, Kegney Stoll and Friend each had five. Friend had 16 assists and Cuturic had 16 digs, while Guerra added nine digs and Kalizewski had seven. Guerra also served 13-for-13 with five aces, and Friend was 8-fr-9 with two aces. St. Paul then defeated Celina (6-13) to close out the day in three, 25-19, 21-25, and 25-18. Kalizewski finished with 10 kills and three blocks, while Shealyn Deeter and Cassidy each had six kills. Friend finished with 24 assists and was 16-for-17 serving with five aces, and also had eight digs. Also fro the Flyers, Guerra had eight digs and was 8-for-8 serving with two aces, while Stoll was 13-for-14 serving with three aces. Cuturic had 11 digs and was 10-for-11 serving with three aces, and Cassidy had seven digs. St. Paul returns to Firelands Conference action Tuesday at Plymouth. S. Central 3, Wynford 1 BUCYRUS — The Trojans improved to 6-11 with Saturday's four-set non-league win South Central posed scores of 25-19, 20-25, 25-17, and 25-20. Taylor Smith finished with 23 digs and was 19-for-20 serving for the Trojans. She also recorded her 1,000th dig in the victory. Autumn Fry had 13 kills and five blocks, and Kaili Ingram added eight kills and five digs. Crestview 3, New London 2 NEW LONDON — The Wildcats fell to 10-8 overall and 5-5 in the FC with a five-set loss to the Cougars on Sept. 25. Crestview (13-5, 6-4) posted scores of 25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 21-25, and 15-6. For New London, Pailee Wilson had 20 kills and five blocks. Gracie Thomas had 14 kills, 13 digs, 21 assists and served two aces, while Ava Ringler had 25 digs. Also for the 'Cats, Brooke Clouse had six kills, Addison Yetter finished with 17 digs, and Harper Clemons had 18 assists and 12 digs. TENNIS Edison 3, Huron 2 HURON — The Chargers picked up a road SBC Bay Division win on Sept. 25. Edison swept all three singles positions to earn the win. Liz Campbell defeated Rachel Merckens at first singles (6-3, 7-5), and Jenna Keoghan topped Emma Barnes (6-3, 6-4) at second singles. Scarlett Bennett then defeated Ally Murray in three sets (6-2, 0-6, 6-4) to clinch the match at third singles. The first doubles team of Ilah Reynolds and Faith Maschari fell to Brynne Hartley and Avery Dudziak (6-2, 6-2). Huron won by forfeit at second doubles. GIRLS GOLF Norwalk second at NCOGGL ASHLAND — The Truckers finished second to the host Arrows on Sept. 26 at the North Central Ohio Girls Golf League tournament played at Brookside golf course. The Truckers totaled a 402 with their top four scorers, led by Adyson Lepley with a 95 and Catherine Beamer with a 96. Evelyn Welschenbach (105) and Emerson Ulery (106) rounded out the scoring. Also for Norwalk, Allison Konik carded a 110 and Chloe Stanford-Jones shot a 118. The Truckers compete at the Division I district tournament on Tuesday at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green. BOYS SOCCER Edison 4, Elyria 1 MILAN — The Chargers improved to 13-0 this season with a non-league win over Elyria. Edison (7-0 Sandusky Bay Conference) hosts Perkins (10-0-1, 7-0) at 5 p.m. Monday. GIRLS SOCCER Elyria 4, Edison 2 MILAN — The Chargers couldn't maintain a halftime lead in the non-league loss to Elyria. Kellyn Ritchie scored an unassisted goal 10 minutes in to give Edison (3-7-3) on the board. Later, Kailyn Dickman scored off an assist from Juliana Johnson to give the Chargers a 2-1 lead at halftime. Ella Rogers registered 14 saves in goal for Edison.
