New London's Hicks, Crockett win Speer Invite

New London's Carter Hicks was the overall race winner and Edison placed second as a team, behind Elyria and just ahead of the Wildcats on Saturday at the Western Reserve John Speer Invitational. The Pioneers totaled 35 points, while the Chargers had 51 and New London totaled 61. Hicks won the race in 16:48.88, which was ahead of Elyria's Kaleb Freeman (17:11.62). Also for New London, Ryan Twining (18:14.85) was eighth, followed by Kaden McMaster (19:17.27) in 15th; Trace Landis (19:27.62) in 18th; and Jaxson Schaffer (19:39.72) in 19th. Edison had had four runners between sixth and 11th, led by Kellen McDonnell (17:46.59) in sixth and Mason Leber (18:08.18) in seventh. Liam Chase (18:45.84) was 10th and Colin Butler18:46.86) was 11th for the Chargers. Also for Edison, Logan Facemire19:19) was 17th and Noah Schoenherr (19:43.67) was 20th. Brice Caudill finished in ninth in 18:32.1 for host Western Reserve. Jaxon Dalton (19:18.84) was 16th and Levi Wolf (20:02.47) was 25th. St. Paul was paced by Jacob Collins (19:49.48) in 23rd and Tanner Denman (20:40.81) in 28th. South Cenral's Izaak Ross (20:39.75) was 27th and Juan Larios (20:51.33) was 29th, while Monroeville's Landon Grosswiler (22:32.75) and Paul DeMarco (22:42.35) were 40th and 41st. The girls race was close in the team standings, as Edison totaled 54 points to St. Paul's 55 and Elyria's 60. New London's Hailey Crockett (20:139.13) and Valery Henry (20:50.43) finished first and second in the race. Lydia Geist (23:41.27) was 13th. Edison's Claire Michaelis was the top finisher in fifth place in 21:52.51. Lily Risner (22:46.48) was seventh, followed by Ava Gardner (23:45.67) in 14th; Juliana Johnson (23:55.95) in 16th; Aili Corfman (24:37.13) in 20th; and Alice Watson (27:09.31) in 30th. Kate Ware paced St. Paul in fourth with a time of 21:47.32. Jenny Schwan (23:07.27) was ninth, followed by Frances Donnelly (23:28.2) in 12th; Deanna Vazquez (24:00.66) in 17th; Scarlett Ross (24:59.85) in 21st; Anna Wright (25:26.85) in 23rd; and Charlotte Hosack (26:26.68) in 27th. Kara Woodruff was 11th for host Western Reserve in 23:11.36, while Ally Goebbel (24:04.03) was 18th Monroeville's Kenley Schafer (22:11.61) was sixth and Abecka Ruggles 927:05.13) was 29th. For South Central, Adelynn Smith (25:45.1) was 26th and Jazzlyn Ellis (27:30.85) was 32nd.
