Edison, Norwalk advance to districts

GALION — The Edison girls golf team finished second at the Division II sectional Tuesday to advance to district play next week. The Chargers shot a 382 to claim runner-up honors at Valley View Golf Course in Galion. Team champion Wynford (366) and Colonel Crawford (398) also will play next week. Edison junior Annabelle Seville shot a 76 to finish second among individuals. Seville had 13 pars and a birdie on the par-5 17th hole. Also scoring for the Chargers was Leah Sharp (95), Ella Rogers (99) and Averi Wolf (112). Lilly Davis shot a 124. Meanwhile, New London's Olivia Yetter shot a 94 to advance out of one of the final individual spots to next week's district tournament. Willard shot a 437 as a team to place ninth, while St. Paul (468) was 12th. For Willard, Emma Whitright shot a 100 and Reese Bedingfield had a 104. Ava Deel added a 116 and Aylinn Cuevas shot a 117. St. Paul was led by Alia Bogard (107) and Aubrey Dilger (115). Rounding out the St. Paul lineup was Ava Englert (123), Arielle Kuhlman (123) and Annabelle Cooper (129). Also among individuals, Western Reserve's Eliza Stewart shot a 100, while New London's Reagan Lunsford (125) and Marissa Smith (138) also competed. Mansfield St. Peter's Joy Kim was medalist with a 1-under-par 72. She had four birdies. The top three teams and top three individuals not on advancing teams qualified for district play Monday at Sycamore Springs in Findlay. At the district tourney, the top four teams and top four individuals not on advancing teams will qualify for the state tournament. DIVISION I Norwalk team advances ARLINGTON — The Truckers finished fifth as a team to earn one of the last spots to advance to next week's district tournament on Monday at Sycamore Springs golf course. Norwalk totaled a 419 during a sectional round that took about eight hours to finish because of two rain delays. Addison Lepley was the team medalist with a 96 for the Truckers. Emerson Ulery shot at 102, followed by Evelyn Welschenbach (104) and Catherine Beamer (117). Allison Konik added a 124. "It was miserable conditions, the course was saturated, but they pushed through and kept focused and did what they needed to do to secure a spot at the next level," NHS head coach Kate Brutcher said. The Truckers will compete at the Div. I district tournament on Tuesday at Stone Ridge golf course in Bowling Green.
