New London's Henry wins Galion Festival

GALION — New London senior Valery Henry was the overall race winner and St. Paul's Kate Ware was in the top five among 81 runners at the Galion Festival held on Saturday at Amann Reservoir. Henry won the Roar Division race in 20:50.7, which was about 17 seconds better than Cardington-Lincoln's Mickenzie White. Ware took fifth in 21:40.6 for the Flyers. In the team standings, Willard finished third overall with 110 points behind champion Columbus Grove (72) and second-place Ashland Crestview (92). St. Paul (134) was fifth and New London was ninth.. The top finisher for the Crimson Flashes was Kelly Hernandez Rojas (22:21.9) in 13th. Kaylee Tenore (22:55.7) was 20th, followed by Ilina Detterman (23:12.4) in 22nd and Helen Acosta Cerda (23:25.9) in 24th. Rounding out the top seven for Willard included Audrey Yonley (24:24.7) in 31st; Ava Deel (25:02.6) in 38th; and Genesis Arce (25:14.9) in 40th. After Ware, Deanna Vazquez (23:10.2) was the highest placer for St. Paul in 21st, while teammate Frances Donnelly (23:21.8) was 23rd. Scarlett Ross (26:02.1) was 46th and Anna Wright 926:06.1) was 47th, while Charlotte Hosack (27:27.8) was 56th. After Henry, New London's Lydia Geist (25:10.8) was 39th and Paiton Shepherd (26:14.4) was 51st. In the boys race, New London finished sixth in the team standings, as the Wildcats scored 141 points, with Willard totaling 211 in eighth place. Carter Hicks was seventh overall for the 'Cats in 17:26. Ryan Twining (18:43.9) was 20th, while Kaden McMaster (19:33.7) and Jaxson Shaffer (19:34.1) were 35th and 36th, respectively. For Willard, Dream Mills (18:17.4) was 15th and Lucas Winans (20:06.5) was 44th. Riley Branham (20:48.6) was 55th and Nick Adkins (20:55.5) was 58th. St. Paul's top finisher was Jacob Collins (20:34.4) in 52nd. Tanner Denman (20:49.9) was 56th. Western Reserve's boys took seventh in the Tiger Division as Brice Caudill was 18th in 18:30.1. Jax Dalton (19:31.6) was 31st, followed by Levi Wolf (20:29.3) in 43rd and Lake Berger (20:49.5) in 45th. On the girls side, Kara Woodruff (24:04) was 27th and Allyson Goebbel (24:48.3) was 30th for the Roughriders. GIRLS SOCCER Norwalk 3, Ashland 3 ASHLAND — The Truckers and Arrows played to a non-league tie Saturday night. Claire Spettle scored twice for Norwalk (5-2-1) and assisted Xavi Immel on the other goal. Becca Farmer had 10 saves for the Truckers, who host Bellevue on Monday. BOYS SOCCER Edison 9, U. Sandusky 0 MILAN — The Chargers are 8-0 for the first time in program history after routing the visiting Rams on Saturday at Bolt Field. Alex Davidson scored four goals for the Chargers, while Carter Jones also had a hat trick with three goals. Jose Serna Amaya had one goal and two assists, while Trey Hines also scored once. Gavyn Blackburn had two assists, while Gannon Chartrant and Kellen McDonnell each added one. VOLLEYBALL Monroeville 3, B. Central 1 NEW WASHINGTON — The Eagles improved to 10-2 overall with Saturday's non-league win in four sets over host Buckeye Central. Monroeville posted scores of 25-17, 25-11, 23-25 and 25-22. Madi Reiber finished with 13 kills to lead the hitting. Ady Adams had 10 kills, while Alexa Adams had eight and Gabby Loose added seven. Kaci Poths finished with 17 assists and Addison Lyons had 15. Addison HOman paced the defense with 45 digs. Maddy Miller and Lyons each had 14, and Rachel Fries added nine. The Eagles served 13 aces, with Ady Adams leading the way with four. Alexa Adams had three, while the trio of Miller, Lyons and Reiber each had two. Monroeville (10-2) lost the JV match in two, 25-20, 25-10. TENNIS SMCC 4, Willard 1 SMCC 3, Willard 2 SANDUSKY — The Crimson Flashes dropped an SBC Bay Division doubleheader to the host Panthers on Sept. 11. In the first match, the first doubles team of Emie Buurma and Cora Clark defeated Lauren Maxwell and Bella Matthews (6-3, 6-2) for the lone Willard win. At first singles, Emma Steinmetz lost to Rachel Spider (6-2, 6-0), while Caitlyn Collins defeated Willard's Evelyn Martinus at second singles (6-4, 6-0). Jillian Strong fell to Rae Roth at third singles (6-0, 6-1). The second doubles team of Bella De Lara and Marina Ramos lost to Grace Will and Olivia Swain (6-1, 6-2). in the second match, Martinus beat Collins in a long three-set match, 4-6, 7-6 (3), 10-3. Buurma and Clark beat Maxwell and Matthews, 6-1, 7-5. At first singles, Steinmetz fell to Spicer (6-1, 6-0). Roth beat Strong at third singles (6-0, 6-1), while De Lara and Ramos fell to Will and Swain (6-3, 6-4) at second doubles.
