Norwalk sweeps Sandusky, inches closer to title

NORWALK — The Norwalk girls tennis team dropped just one came across 10 sets in sweeping visiting Sandusky, 5-0, in a Sandusky Bay Conference Lake Division match at the Norwalk Middle School courts. With the win, Norwalk improved to 10-4 overall and 8-0 in the Lake. The Truckers host Perkins and Tiffin Columbian next Tuesday and Thursday to finish their league schedule. A win Tuesday over the Pirates (7-5, 3-3) would clinch at least a share of a fourth straight league title ahead of the rematch with Columbian (12-3, 6-1). On the road, Norwalk won at Perkins, 5-0, on Aug. 26 and topped the Tornadoes, 3-2, on Aug. 28 in Tiffin. In Thursday's win over Sandusky, winning in straight 6-0, 6-0 sets was junior Lydia Trost over Amya Johnson at first singles; junior Addy Rospert over Joy Redding at second singles, and sophomore Leksi Jurczek over Dynastee Lyndsey at third singles. At first doubles, seniors Roxy Brummit and Abby Upton swept Kambrynn Erhnsberger and Zuri Johnson (6-0, 6-0). The second doubles team of seniors Chloe Hazelwood and Vanessa Vazquez defeated Chloe Goodsite and Kylie Grant (6-0, 6-1). In junior varsity matches, Norwalk went 6-0. Winners included Libby Lark and Emmie Leber (6-1); Scarlet Schneider and Lilly Lark (6-0); Lily McDuffie and Natalie Morales (6-1); Nora Whaley and Valerie Samano (6-0); Carsyn Swick and Genevieve Riley (6-1); and Miley Gatcshet and Keelie Cammarn (6-3).
