New London's Thomas earns 1,000th assist

NEW LONDON — Three-sport standout Gracie Thomas earned her 1,000th career assist as setter for the New London volleyball team in Tuesday's Firelands Conference win over South Central. The Wildcats topped the Trojans in three sets, 25-19, 25-15 and 25-16 to improve to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the FC. Thomas finished the match with 19 assists, and also had 12 kills and nine digs. Pailee Wilson finished with 16 kills, while Ava Ringler had 17 digs and Addison Yetter added seven. New London visits Monreoville Thursday night in FC play. South Central (3-7, 1-2) is at Mapleton. Open Door 3, Edison 1 MILAN — The Chargers fell to 4-5 overall with Tuesday's non-league loss to the visiting Patriots. Open Door posted scores of 25-15, 27-25, 23-25 and 25-16 to earn the win. For Edison, Ella Booth and Dana Preston each had six kills. Booth also served seven points and had two blocks. Taylor Moore also had 20 dig and eight points, while Peyton Bissell had 18 assists and eight points. Also for the Chargers, Paige McFadden had 11 assists, while Abby Cloud had four kills and Macari Harris had three. GIRLS GOLF Edison wins Bay shootout HURON — Edison shot a 189 to win an SBC Bay shootout at Thunderbird Hills on Wednesday. The Chargers' Annabelle Seville shot a 37 to win medalist honors. Three golfers — Huron's Ashtyn Spooner, Edison's Leah Sharp and Margaretta's Ellyse Schaefer — tied for second at 40. Huron finished second in the team competition with a 203, one shot ahead of Margaretta and Willard. JUNIOR HIGH NMS seventh grade unbeaten NORWALK — The Norwalk Middle School seventh-grade volleyball team defeated visiting Columbian in SBC Lake play Wednesday night, 25-10, 25-15. In the first set, Kayla Naseman served eight straight points, while Lexi Schmidt added six points of her own to help build a commanding lead. In the second set, Paisley Snyder stepped up with seven points, fueling another strong performance in the team win. With the win, Norwalk improved to 8-0 on the season. The team takes on Bellevue Monday.
