Norwalk routs Willard in SBC win

WILLARD — The Norwalk boys soccer team responded from a loss with a 7-1 win over host Willard in a non-league match Monday night. The Truckers (4-4, 4-0) remained unbeaten in the Sandusky Bay Conference by scoring four goals in the first half of the win. On Sept. 6, Norwalk was in a 0-0 tie against Ontario at halftime, but ended up on the wrong side of a 5-1 loss. In Monday's win, Elliot Gahring netted a hat trick with three goals. Noah Jameson scored twice, while Conor Nickle and Landon Ferkel each scored once. Norwalk also got assists from Ferkel, Roman Snyder, Kingston Gonzales and Casey Kromer. The Truckers are off until next Monday when they travel to North Eaton in Lorain County to take on Christian Community School. GIRLS SOCCER Woodmore 4, Norwalk 0 ELMORE — The Truckers took a shutout loss to the Wildcats on the road Monday night in Sandusky Bay Conference play. With the loss, Norwalk fell to 5-2 and 3-1 in the SBC. Becca Farmer made 13 saves for the Truckers, who visit Ashland at 7 p.m. Saturday. Edison 6, Columbian 1 MILAN — The Chargers led 5-0 at halftime of Monday's win over the Tornadoes, which improved them to 2-4-1 overall and 2-2 in the SBC. Sophie Baker netted a hat trick with three goals for Edison, while Joy Jordan scored twice, and Juliana Johnson had one goal. Kellyn Ritchie assisted on two of the goals. Ella Rogers made four saves for the Chargers, who host Clyde on Wednesday. GIRLS GOLF Norwalk second at Lake Shootout TIFFIN — The Truckers shot a 203 to finish second by two strokes behind first-place Perkins (201) at Monday's SBC Lake Shootout at Mohawk Country Club. Catherine Beamer led Norwalk with a 48, while Emerson Ulery had a 50. Adyson Lepley was next with a 52, while Evelyn Welschenbach had a 53. Allison Konik (57) and Chloe Stanford-Jones (62) rounded out the lineup. St. Paul competes in Colt Classic BELLVILLE — The Flyers totaled a 393 at Monday's Clear Fork Colt Classic, held at Little Apple golf course. Alia Bogard and Ava Englert each shot a 96 to pace St. Paul, while Aubrey Dilger shot a 100 and Annabelle Cooper had a 101. VOLLEYBALL Willard 3, Hopewell 0 BASCOM — The Crimson Flashes improved to 8-3 overall with Monday's non-league sweep over the host Chieftains. Willard won in three sets, 25-20, 25-10 and 25-16 as Camryn Wiers had 10 kills, eight assists, eight digs and was 6-for-7 serving with four points. Leah Weiss finished with eight kills, nine digs, and served 11-for-12 with six points and two aces. Natalie Slone was 15-for-15 serving with 10 points and three aces, and also had eight kills and nine digs. Also for Willard, Emelia Tallman had 10 assists, three digs, and was 13-for-14 serving with nine points and an ace. Alexis Rettig was 9-for-11 serving with six points and 11 digs, while Teagan Schaffer was 11-for-12 with seven points, and Mya Stephens had seven assists. "We let them hang around too long with us in the first set, but then came out strong in the second set," Willard head coach Ashley Bond said. "We had a lead and kind of let up a little at the end in the third set, but all-in-all, it was a good overall performance. "Our serve receive was solid tonight, and that led to a strong hitting night. We only gave up four two-point runs on the night, and we are a much different team when we have good ball control." BOYS GOLF Crestview 167, N. London 176 ASHLAND — The Wildcats suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the host Cougars Monday at Brookside golf course. Brody Sword paced New London (11-1, 6-1) with a 40, followed by Grady Heileman and Kade Detterman, who each shot 45s. Also for New London, Easton Ball had a 46, and was followed by Logan Sword (47), Presley Ferguson (48). The Wildcats were set to visit Plymouth Tuesday. Mapleton 187, St. Paul 204 AsHLAND — The Flyers got a 41 from freshman Mason Beatty in Monday's Firelands Conference loss to the host Mounties. Connor Polachek shot a 45 for St. Paul, and was followed by Jacob Penwell (58), Everett Beal (60) and Tristan Schlachter (61). TENNIS Perkins 4, Edison 1 PERKINS TWP. — The Chargers fell to the host Pirates Monday night in a non-league matchup between SBC members at the Perkins Community Courts. Winning for Edison was Liz Campbell at first singles. She beat Anna Ferback, 7-6 (4), 6-1. Jenna Keoghan fell to Olivia Lizzi at second singles (7-5, 6-3), as did Scarlett Bennett at third singles against Katelyn Troyer (2-6, 7-5, 10-2). At first doubles, Faith Maschari and Teagan Farrell lost to Brynn Catlett and Jencyn Gennari (6-1, 6-1). Perkins won at second doubles by forfeit. JUNIOR HIGH NMS volleyball results The Norwalk seventh and eighth-grade volleyball teams played Clyde and Vermilion recently. On Sept. 3, both teams defeated Clyde in SBC Lake play. The seventh-grade improved to 6-0 with a three-set win over the Fliers, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22. Kayla Naseman served 13 points in the first set. Norwalk trailed 13-5 in the third set, but rallied behind the defense of Ella Ames, Lyza Ringenberg and Adelinn Sitterly. At the net, Lexi Schmidt, Kara Russ and Harper Gilbert led the efforts, with setting from Addie Hance and Naseman. In the eighth-grade match, Norwalk defeated Clyde with a pair of 25-22 scores. Laney Schlotterer had eight kills, followed by Kalli Oates with seven and Lilli Kipp with four. Mia Helton, Brynn Sellers and Oates helped lead the back row on defense, while Sellers and Londynn Clifton were 100 percent servers. On Monday, the seventh grade team won in two at Vermilion, 25-10, 25-13. Hence served 13 straight points in the first set to help the Truckers improve to 7-0. The eighth-grade team lost to the Sailors, 25-11, 25-19. Oates, Clifton and Helton led the back row in the loss, which dropped NMS to 5-2. Both teams will host Columbian on Wednesday in league play.
