Read under the lights

NORWALK — An annual event aimed at promoting literacy in Norwalk returns next week. Norwalk Schools is hosting Reading Under the Lights on Monday evening at Contractor's Stadium, 24 St. Marys St. The event, in its fifth invites parents and their children to come out to read underneath the stadium lights. "Bring a blanket and your favorite book," a Norwalk Schools Facebook post states. "We look forward to seeing you there." The event will include free books for students who attend the four city school district elementary buildings: Maplehurst, Pleasant, Main Street and League. There will even be an appearance from Chomps, the Cleveland Browns mascot. District officials noted that no food or drink will be permitted on the track or field. Here is the schedule of events planned: • 5:45-6:15 p.m.: Musical entertainment • 6-7:15 p.m.: Camping-inspired stations • 7:30 p.m.: "Pick up your special treat and safe travels home," the post states.
