Willard bounces back, sweeps S.C.

GREENWICH — The Willard volleyball team bounced back from its first two losses of the season with a three-set sweep over host South Central Tuesday night. Willard (7-2) won with scores of 25-15, 25-14 and 25-18. Leah Weiss had 13 kills at the net for the Crimson Flashes, while Natalie Slone had 11 and Camryn Wiers had 10. Slone added nine digs and was 12-for-16 serving with 10 points and four aces, while Wiers also had 10 assists and eight digs. Also for Willard, Teagan Schaffer had four kills and three blocks. Emelia Tallman had 13 assists and was 12-for-13 serving, while Alexis Rettig was 15-for-17 serving with an ace and seven digs. Mya Stephens also had nine assists for the Flashes, who host Huron in a big SBC Bay match Thursday night. For South Central (3-5), Autumn Fry had nine kills and one block. Taylor Smith had 17 digs and Bry Lopez had 10 digs. Norwalk 3, New London 2 NEW LONDON — The Truckers (4-3) rallied past the Wildcats by taking the last two sets in Tuesday's non-league win. Norwalk won with scores of 15-25, 25-7, 17-25, 25-19 and 15-13. Ainslee King had 11 kills at the net and Maddie Gamble had nine for Norwalk. Reagan Mooney served 17-for-17 with an ace and had eight digs, while Gamble was 16-for-16 with two aces and Lola Schlotterer was 17-for-18 serving with 13 digs. Emily Tyler was 115-of-115 setting with 34 assists for the Truckers, who visit Clyde in SBC Lake play Thursday. Monroeville 3, Clyde 1 CLYDE — The Eagles improved to 5-2 overall with a four-set win over the host Fliers Tuesday night. Monroeville posted scores of 21-25, 25-20, 28-26 and 28-26. Madi Reiber had 13 kills, while Alexa Adams had 11; Ady Adams had 10; and Riley Platte had nine with three blocks. Addison Lyons finished with 23 assists and Kaci Poths had 18, while Addison Homan finished with 44 digs and Maddy Miller had 15. Poths and Alexa Adams each had eight digs. Monroeville (6-1) lost the JV match in three, 22-25, 27-25 and 25-23. The Eagles host South Central on Thursday. JUNIOR HIGH NMS teams beat P.C. NORWALK — The Norwalk seventh and eighth-grade volleyball teams each defeated Port Clinton on Sept. 2 at the Middle School. The eighth-graders won, 25-14, 25-9. Brynn Sellers, Londynn Clifton and Laney Schlotterer each were 100-percent servers, while Lilli Kipp had five kills. Kalli Oates and Harper Reamer each had three kills and Schlotterer and Clifton both had two kills. Stella Kipp and Schlotterer each had two blocks, while Oates and Sellers each had three digs. The seventh-grade team (5-0) won 25-11 and 25-13. In the first set, Kayla Naseman, Ella Ames, and Adelinn Sitterly led the team serving, while Kendall Khaledi and Kara Russ led the serving line in the second set. Offensively, the Truckers were led by Lexi Schmidt, Harper Gilbert, Russ, Sitterly, Ames, and Grace Emmons, who all contributed kills. Addie Hance and Naseman set the assists. Defensively, Lyza Ringenberg, Paisley Snyder, Melanie Havens and Ava Iehle Ball came up with key plays.
