Norwalk cross country competes in Ashland

The Norwalk High School cross country teams competed in the Ashland Arrow Invitational on Aug. 30 at Freer Field. In the Div. I-II race, the NHS boys were 12th in the 18-team field. Nolan Jones was the top finisher for Norwalk. He was 56th in 18:04. Caiden Schmidt (18:23.9) was 80th, followed by Clay Heyman (18:29.9) in 83rd and Jason Cruz Segovia (18:36.4) was 87th. Rounding out the top seven included Alex Christophel (18:47) in 97th; Isaiah Kelsey (18:51) in 100th; and Anthony Hall (19:09) in 111th. The Norwalk girls finished eighth out of 14 teams as Saige Konik was among the top 10 runners. She ran a time of 19:13.4 to place seventh. Olive Leavitt (20:02.2) was 14th and Xavi Immel (20:55.8) was 32nd. Raelyn Konik (23:21.3) finished 93rd, followed by Anna Whaley (25:12.5) in 137th; Allison Konik (25:33.2) in 145th; and Maddison Trenor (26:13) in 156th. NOL Reunion meet NORWALK — On Aug. 26, the NHS program hosted the Northern Ohio League reunion meet with Bellevue, Shelby and Willard participating at the Norwalk Reservoir. The Truckers won the boys quad with 30 points, followed by Bellevue (52), Shelby (53) and Willard (104). Bellevue's Brock Meachum was the overall race winner in 10:49. Casey Kromer was second overall in 11:02 for Norwalk. Schmidt was fifth in 11:05, followed by Christophel (11:06) in sixth, Jones (11:08) in seventh and Heyman (11:14) in 10th. Jake Bissel (11:19) was 12th, followed by Segovia (11:33) in 14th and Hall (11:40) in 15th. Willard's top runner was Dream Mills (11:22) in 13th. Shelby won the girls race with 38 points, just one better than host Norwalk. Bellevue (61) was third and followed by Willard (8). Shelby's Anna Will was the overall race winner in 11:46. Konik was also second overall for Norwalk in 12:06. Leavitt was behind her in third in a time of 12:18, and Immel was seventh in 12:55. Grace Norris (13:36) was ninth for the Truckers, followed by Raelyn Konik (14:35) in 19th, Allison Konik (15:14) in 25th, and Whaley (15:39) in 30th. Willard's Keilly Hernandez Rojas was its top finisher (13:37) in 10th. The Tiffin Carnival is up next for most area teams on Saturday.
