Area trio sweeps FC matches

COLLINS — The Western Reserve volleyball team swept its way to a Firelands Conference victory over visiting South Central Tuesday night. The Roughriders (3-1, 1-1) posted scores of 25-23, 25-21 and 25-16. Drew Clemons finished with seven kills and Leah Osborne had five for Western, while Emma Hammond served 14 points and Stella Blake had seven. Jamie Muenz had 23 assists and 16 digs, while Makayla Case also had 23 digs for Western, which visits Monroeville on Thursday. For South Central (2-2, 1-1), Autumn Fry finished with 12 kills and three blocks. Taylor Smith had 31 digs and Bre Lopez had 17, while Smith was also 10-for-11 serving with an ace. Monroeville 3, Crestview 0 OLIVESBURG — The Eagles improved to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the FC with Tuesday's sweep over the host Cougars. Monroeville posted scores of 25-20, 25-17, 25-16. Ady Adams finished with 15 kills while Alexa Adams had 13 kills and served three aces. Madi Rieber finished with 10 kills, while Kaci Poths had 19 assists and Addison Lyons finished with 17. Defensively, Addison Homan finished with 40 over the three sets, pushing her past the 1,000-mark for her career. Maddy Miller added 10 digs. The Eagles (5-0, 2-0) also won the JV match, 25-12, 25-12. St. Paul 3, Mapleton 0 NORWALK — The Flyers improved to 2-0 overall and in the FC with Tuesday's sweep over the visiting Mounties inside Harvey Keller Gymnasium. St. Paul won with scores of 25-16, 25-17 and 25-20. Ella Kalizewski had 10 kills and Brooklyn Cassidy had seven for the Flyers. Annie Friend finished with 28 assists and served 10-for-12 with two aces. Lily Cuturic paced the defense with 16 digs and Kalizewski had 12, while Kalizewski also served 20-for-21 with two aces. Bella Guerra was also 15-for-15 serving and had six digs for St. Paul, which visits South Central Thursday. TENNIS Norwalk 5, Perkins 0 PERKINS TWP. — The Truckers won two tight matches at both doubles positions to finish off a sweep of the shot Pirates in SBC Lake play Tuesday. Norwalk (5-3, 4-0) cruised in the singles matches. Lydia Trost beat Anna Ferback (7-5, 6-0) at first singles, while Addy Rospert beat Olivia Lizzi (6-2, 6-1) at second singles. Third singles saw Leksi Jurczek beat Katelyn Troyer (6-1, 6-2). At first doubles, the team of Alyssa Gruhlke and Aubrey Kluding beat Brynn Catlett and Lexi Green in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1. The second doubles team of Chloe Hazelwood and Riley Helton then beat Jencyn Gennari and Ella West in two close sets (7-5, 7-5). In junior varsity matches, Vanessa Vazquez and Nellie Ferguson (6-3), Libby Lark and Grace Knight (6-2), Emmie Leber and Scarlet Schneider (6-1) all won for Norwalk. Natalie Wiegel and Ella Borgeson were edged 7-6, while Lily McDuffie and Nora Whaley fell 6-4 and Natalie Morales and Carsyn Swick lost 6-1. The Truckers travel to Tiffin Thursday to face Columbian (7-2, 3-0) in a match for sole possession of first place in the league standings. P. Clinton 4, Edison 1 MILAN — First singles standout Liz Campbell picked up a big win over Grace Arnold at first singles for Edison in Tuesday's SBC Bay loss to the Redskins. Campbell won in two close, straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 over Arnold, a state qualifier at doubles last year with Nora Pixler, who beat Edison's Jenna Keoghan at second singles (6-0, 6-1). At third singles, Port Clinton's Anastasia Hughes beat Scarlett Bennett, 6-0, 6-2. The first doubles team of Edison's Ilah Reynolds and Faith Maschari fell in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) to Shantha West and Megan Zgodzinski. The Redskins won second doubles by forfeit.
