Norwalk tennis sweeps host Clyde

CLYDE — The Norwalk girls tennis team didn't lose a set in a sweep of host Clyde to improve to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the SBC Lake Division Monday. Lydia Trost defeated Ariah Farrar (7-6 (7), 7-5) at first singles, while Addy Rospert topped Kenzie Guhn (6-3, 6-0). At third singles, Leksi Jurczuk beat Ava Fosnight (6-2, 6-1). The first doubles team of Alyssa Gruhlke and Aubrey Kluding beat Delaney Fritz and Adriana Barnes-Ortmann (6-2, 6-4). At second doubles, Chloe Hazelwood and Riley Helton beat Sophia Ruffing and Danika Harvey (6-4, 6-3). In junior varsity matches, Roxy Brummit and Brooklyn Younce, Abby Upton and Vanessa Vazquez, and Nellie Ferguson and Libby Lark each won 6-0. Lily Ware and Ella Borgeson also won, 6-1. The teams of Valerie Samano and Keelie Cammarn (4-6) and Genevieve Riley and Miley Gatschet (1-6) also competed for the Truckers. Norwalk will play its second of three road league matches this week Tuesday at Perkins. SMCC 3, Edison 2 MILAN — The Chargers were edged by the Panthers in SBC Bay action Monday. Liz Campbell won for Edison at first singles over Rachel Spicer (6-4, 6-3), while Scarlett Bennett beat Nadia Maxwell at third singles (6-0, 6-1) for the Chargers. At second doubles, Jenna Keoghan lost to Caitlyn Collins, 6-3, 7-6 (3). At first doubles, Ilah Reynolds and Faith Maschari lost to Lauren Maxwell and Bella Mathews (6-4, 6-0). Edison forfeited the second doubles position. Port Clinton 5, Willard 0 PORT CLINTON — Port Clinton shut out Willard to improve to 6-0, 2-0 SBC Bay with Monday's win. At first singles, Emma Steinmetz lost to Grace Arnold (6-0, 6-0) and Evelyn Martinus fell to Nora Pixler (6-0, 6-2) at second singles. Port Clinton's Anastasia Hughes beat Jillian Strong (6-0, 6-0) at third singles. The first doubles team of Emie Buurma and Cora Clark lost to Santha West and Megan Zgodzinski (6-0, 6-0), as did the second doubles team of Bella De Lara and Marina Ramos to Lilly Hatt and Jaelynn Mazur (6-0, 6-0). BOYS GOLF New London 163, St. Paul 202 NEW LONDON — The Wildcats cruised to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the Firelands Conference with Monday's win over the visiting Flyers at Millstone Hills. Grady Heileman was medalist for New London with a 37. Brody Sword shot a 39, followed by Kade Detterman (42), Logan Sword (45), Presley Ferguson (46) and Easton Ball (56). Mason Beatty led St. Paul with a 42 and Connor Polachek shot a 45. Everett Beal (55), Tristan Schlacter (55) and Jacob Penwell (65) rounded out the lineup. New London will host Western Reserve and St. Paul will host Plymouth on Wednesday. Norwalk 183, B. Central 221 NORWALK — Norwalk had the top four placers to dominate Buckeye Central at Eagle Creek Golf Club. Emytt Graffice and Cohen Shoop led the Truckers with 45s. Caleb Thompson (46) and Jarrett Scheid (47) rounded out the Truckers' balanced card. GIRLS GOLF Norwalk 198, Port Clinton 244 NORWALK — Adyson Lepley shot a 45 to lead Norwalk to a nonconference win over Port Clinton at Eagle Creek. Also scoring for the Truckers: Emerson Ulery (49), Catherine Beamer (50) and Evelyn Welschenbach (54). JUNIOR HIGH NMS teams sweep Willard WILLARD — The Norwalk seventh and eighth-grade volleyball teams defeated host Willard Monday night. The eighth-grade team won, 25-17, 25-18. Norwalk served 16 aces between Lilli Kipp, Londynn Clifton, Laney Schlotterer, Stella Kipp and Kalli Oates. Defensively, Norwalk had eight digs between Olivia Roth and Kalli Oates. Brynn Sellers and Stella Kipp set up Lilli Kipp, Harper Reamer and Schlotterer as setters. Norwalk (3-0) cruised in the seventh-grade match, 25-7, 25-8. Kayla Naseman served an 8-0 run in the first set, and Adelinn Sitterly did the same later in the set. Addie Hance then did five points to finish the win. In Set 2, Grace Emmons led the team in scoring with consistent and effective serving.
