Bellevue edges Monroeville in non-league tilt

MONROEVILLE — The Monroeville volleyball team fell in four sets to nearby Bellevue in a non-league battle of U.S. 20 schools Thursday night inside the Monroeville Athletic Complex. For the Eagles (1-1), who fell by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 26-24 and 25-18, Madi Reiber and Alexa Adams each had 12 kills. Ady Adams had 11 kills, while Addison Lyons had 23 assists and Kaci Poths had 14. Defensively for Monroeville, Addison Homan led the way with 39 digs. Addison Lyons finished with 20, followed by Maddy Miller (16), Poths (15) and Rachel Fries (10). Monroeville won the junior varsity match (25-21, 25-13) to improve to 2-0. The Eagles will host Edison and Mohawk Saturday morning in a non-league tri-match. Willard 3, Perkins 1 PERKINS TWP — The Crimson Flashes ran their record to 3-0 with a four-set win over the host Pirates Thursday night. Willard posted scores of 25-23, 25-20, 18-25 and 25-12 to earn the win. Camryn Wiers and Natalie Slone each had 11 kills for Willard, while Leah Weiss had six and Teagan Schaffer added five. Weiss was also 17-for-18 serving with four aces and had 12 digs. Wiers also had 10 assists and 14 digs. Also for Willard, Alexis Rettig was 13-for-14 serving with an ace and also had 10 digs. Emelia Tallman was 16-for-18 serving with an ace, nine assists and five digs. "The third set was a test for us to see how we would respond to losing a set, and we rebounded well, which is a testament to our senior leadership," Willard head coach Ashley Bond said. "Alexis started things off for us in the fourth set with two aces and everyone else just followed suit." Edison 3, Clyde 0 MILAN — The Chargers picked up their first win of the season by narrowly avoiding their second five-set match in 48 hours with Thursday's win over the Fliers. Edison won, 25-20, 15-25, 25-23 and 25-23. In a match at Norwalk on Aug. 19, the Chargers lost in five sets. In Thursday's win, Ella Booth had 14 kills and eight digs, while Taylor Moore had 30 digs and Stella Brown finished with 22 digs. Peyton Bissell had 17 assists and Paige McFadden had 15. Also for Edison, Dana Preston and Abby Cloud each had eight kills and Macari Harris had six. TENNIS Norwalk 5, Sandusky 0 SANDUSKY — The Truckers easily won all five matches in straight sets to beat the Blue Streaks Thursday and improve to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the SBC Lake Division. The Truckers dropped just three games total over the five matches. At first singles, Lydia Trost beat Joy Redding (6-0, 6-1), while Addy Rospert and Leksi Jurczuk each swept Dynastee Lindsey and Ta'Nijah Spillman at second and third singles (6-0, 6-0). The first doubles team of Alyssa Gruhlke and Aubrey Kluding beat Amya Johnson and Kambrynn Ehrnsberger (6-0, 6-1), while the team of Chloe Hazelwood and Riley Helton won by the same score (6-1, 6-0) at second doubles over Zuri Johnson and Chloe Goodsite. In junior varsity, Roxy Brummit and Lilly Ware, and Ella Borgerson and Natalie Wiegel, each stept (6-0). The other JV matches were suspended because of rain. Adyson Lepley paced the Truckers with a 47. Evelyn Welschenbach was next with a 51 and Catherine Beamer had a 52. Also for Norwalk, Emerson Ulery and Allison Konik each shot 53s, while Chloe Stanford-Jones added a 60. Norwalk entertains Port Clinton Monday at Eagle Creek. BOYS GOLF Edison wins road tri-match SANDUSKY — The Chargers shot a 177 to best Toledo Scott (281) and a three-man effort from host Sandusky (150) Thursday afternoon at Mills Creek. Hayden Lewis and Owen Price each shot a 40 to pace the Chargers. Weston Gfell added a 48 and Mason Hermes was just behind with a 49.
