Norwalk girls soccer blanks Shelby

NORWALK — The Norwalk girls soccer team opened its home portion of the 2025 season with a 3-0 shutout win over visiting Shelby Wednesday night at rainy Contractors Stadium. Junior Claire Spettle scored an unassisted first goal for the Truckers to grab the 1-0 lead. Freshman Kira Sandor then extended the lead to 2-0 with a goal off an assist from Spettle. The third and final goal came when junior CJ Bennett scored off an assist from Emerson Reamer. The Truckers visit perennial North Central Ohio power Mansfield Madison on Saturday for another non-league matchup. BOYS GOLF Willard second in Bay shootout PORT CLINTON — One day after edging the Sailors on the front night at the Catawba Island Club course, the Crimson Flashes finished second to Vermilion Wednesday on the back nine of an SBC Bay Shootout. The Sailors shot a 177 to Willard's 182. Margaretta (185), Huron (191), Edison (197) and Port Clinton (231). Mason Dawson led the Flashes with a 44, while the trio of Harrison Meisner, Isaac Frye and Jaxson Hall each shot 46s. Kaleb Weaver added a 48 and Adler Ames had a 49. For Edison, Hayden Lewis shot a 42. Mason Hermes had a 50, and was followed by Owen Price (52) and Weston Gfell (53). Both Brooks Ballah and Tyler Pounds each shot 54s. Crestview 168, St. Paul 206 NORWALK — The Cougars cruised past the Flyers for a Firelands Conference win Wednesday at Eagle Creek golf course. Mason Beatty continued to pace St. Paul by shooting a 37. Connor Polachek had a 48 and Everett Beal had a 56. Tristan Schlachter was next with a 65 and Jacob Penwell added a 66. St. Paul takes on host New London at Millstone Hills on Monday. New London 174, Mapleton 175 NEW LONDON — The Wildcats scored a key one-stroke victory over the visiting Mounties Wednesday at Millstone Hills. Brody Sword led the team with a 40, followed by Grady Heileman with a 43 and Kade Detterman with a 44. Presley Ferguson rounded out the scoring with a 47. Others for New London included Logan Sword and Easton Ball, who each shot a 49. New London will compete in the Madison Invitational on Friday at Valley View golf course in Galion. St. Paul 194, W. Reserve 203 HURON TWP. — The Flyers picked up an FC win over the host Roughriders on Aug. 13 at Thunderbird North. Beatty shot a 38 to lead the Flyers, with Polachek adding a 45. Beal was next with a 55, followed by Schlacter (56) and Penwell (57). GIRLS GOLF Crestview 210, St. Paul 229 NORWALK — The Flyers (6-3) fell to the Cougars in Wednesday's matchup between FC programs. Alia Bogard paced the Flyers with a new career-low of a 48. Aubrey Dilger added a 49 and was followed by Annabelle Cooper and Arielle Kuhlman, who each shot a 66. St. Paul was scheduled to visit Perkins Thursday and Vermilion on Monday. JUNIOR HIGH NMS seventh-grade wins NORWALK — The seventh-grade Norwalk Middle School volleyball team beat Margaretta with identical 25-6 scores Wednesday night inside the NMS gym. Head coach Callie Baker received contributions from the entire roster to improve to 2-0. Lyza Ringenberg led the serving in the first set, while Kara Russ and Grace Emmons led the way in the second set at the service line. Norwalk will take on Willard on Monday.
