Western volleyball opens with win

COLLINS — The Western Reserve volleyball team opened the season with a three-set sweep over visiting Lucas Monday night. The Roughriders posted scores of 25-14, 25-11 and 25-13. In the win, Drew Clemons finished with 10 kills and Stella Blake added five. Jamie Muenz was 60-of-61 setting with 25 assists, while Lexi Mullins served 13 points and Emma Hammond had 10 points. Makayla Case added seven digs for Western, which hosts St. Paul in a Firelands Conference match Tuesday night. TENNIS Norwalk 4, Willard 1 NORWALK — The Truckers started a busy week with a 4-1 non-league win over visiting Willard Monday at the Middle School courts. The Truckers (2-3) swept all three matches in singles play. Lydia Trost beat Emma Steinmetz at first singles (6-3, 6-2), while Addy Rospert topped Evelyn Martinus at second singles (6-1, 6-0). At third singles, Leksi Jurczuk defeated Jillian Strong (6-3, 6-0). Willard picked up its lone win at first doubles. The team of Emie Buurma and Cora Clark outlasted Aubrey Kluding and Alyssa Gruhlke, 5-7, 2-6, 10-5. Norwalk won at second doubles, as Chloe Hazelwood and Riley Helton beat Bella De Lara and Jayda Sterling (6-0, 6-0). In junior varsity matches, Lily McDufie and Natalie Morales won (8-1). Nora Whaley and Carsyn Swick fell (8-7). Norwalk returns to SBC Lake play Tuesday at Clyde. Clyde 3, Edison 2 MILAN TWP. — The Fliers slipped past the Chargers for a non-league win Monday at Edison Park. Edison picked up its two wins at the first two singles positions. Liz Campbell defeated Danika Harvey (6-0, 6-0) at first singles, while Jenna Keoghan topped Ava Fosnight at second singles (6-2, 6-1). Clyde won by forfeit at third singles. At first doubles, Scarlett Bennett and Faith Maschari lost to Kenzlie Guhn and Ariah Farrar (6-2, 6-1). At second doubles, the team of Ellie Butler and Ilah Reynolds lost to Delaney Fritz and Adriana Barnes-Ortmann (6-0, 6-1). GIRLS GOLF Norwalk 205, Margaretta 234 NORWALK — Adyson Lepley fired a 45 to lead the Truckers to a non-league win ver the Polar Bears Monday at Eagle Creek. Evelyn Welschenbach added a 46 for Norwalk, who also got a 56 from Emerson Ulery and a 58 from Chloe Stanford-Jones. The Truckers return to the course Thursday against Lexington at Oak Tree Golf Course in Ontario. GIRLS SOCCER Norwalk 3, Upper Sandusky 2 UPPER SANDUSKY — The Truckers opened the season with a non-league win Monday over the host Rams. Claire Spettle scored twice and CJ Bennett added the third goal for Norwalk (1-0). Bennett also assisted one of Spettle's goals, while Audrey Sanders added the other two assists. At goalkeeper, Becca Farmer made three saves. Norwalk will entertain Shelby at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
