Willard fifth at tough P.C. Classic

PORT CLINTON — The Willard boys golf team earned a fifth-place finish out of 20 teams Monday at the annual Per Clinton Classic at the Catawba Island Club golf course. The Crimson Flashes totaled a 350, which was two strokes behind fourth-place Parma Padua (350). Pettisville (335) won the tournament, followed by Kalida (336) in second and Vermilion (339) in third. Adler Ames paced the Crimson Flashes by shooting a 45-40—85. Just behind him was Harrison Meisner with a 43-43—86. Also for Willard, Jaxson Hall (46-44)&sbquo; shot a 90, followed by Mason Dawson (44-47) with a 91 and Kaleb Weaver (48-46) with a 94. Also Monday, Norwalk was 16th after shooting a 407 and St. Paul was 18th with a 437. The Truckers were paced by Emytt Graffice (51-47) with a 98. Jett Scheid added a 102 (52-50), followed by Cohen School (50-53) with a 103 and Luke Metcalf (49-55) with a 104. Caleb Thompson added a 108 (51-57). Mason Beatty led the Flyers with a 43-45—88. That was good for a tie for 20th overall among all individuals Monday. Connor Polachek shot a 96 (52-44), followed by Tristan Schlacter (63-53) with a 116. Everett Beal added a 137 and Jacob Penwell had a 138. Vermilion sophomore Sam Riddle shot a 2-over-par 74 to finish as overall medalist of the tournament. Bellevue finished seventh as a team with a 363. Preston Spurlock paced the Redmen with an 88 while Blake Sutherland and Sam Cooper each carded a 91. Norwalk hosts Lexington at 3 p.m. Tuesday, while the Flyers entertain Crestview in league play at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Both matches will be held at Eagle Creek golf course. New London 165, Plymouth 220 NEW LONDON — The Wildcats improved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Firelands Conference following Monday's home win at Millstone Hills. Brody Sword again paced New London with a 36. Presley Ferguson shot a 41, and was followed by Grady Heileman (43) and Kade Detterman (45). Also for the 'Cats, Logan Sword shot a 51 and Olivia Yetter added a 62. New London hosts Mapleton in another FC match on Wednesday.
