New London beats WR for first FC win

HURON TWP. — The New London boys golf team picked up a 175-221 win in Firelands Conference play Monday over host Western Reserve at Thunderbird North. Brody Sword paced the Wildcats (2-0, 1-0) with a 38 to earn medalist honors. Kade Detterman was next with a 43, while both Grady Heileman and Presley Ferguson each had 47s. Also for New London, Logan Sword shot a 51 and Mario Maple had a 53. On Tuesday, New London hosted Buckeye Central at Millstone Hills and posted a 167-207 victory. Sword shot a 31 for the Wildcats (3-0), who also got a 44 from Detterman. Heileman and Ferguson each shot 46s, while Logan Sword had a 49 and Maple added a 59. St. Paul 191, Plymouth 211 SHELBY — The Flyers picked up their first Firelands Conference win of the season Monday by topping the Big Red at Woody Ridge. Freshman Mason Beatty paced St. Paul with a 39. Sophomores Connor Polachek (44) and Jacob Penwell (53) were next. Senior Everett Beal added a 55 and sophomore Tristan Schlachter shot a 59. Flashes win Bay Shootout WILLARD — The Crimson Flashes edged Vermilion by a stroke to take the top spot at Tuesday's SBC Bay Shootout at the Willard Golf Club. The Flashes totaled a 168 to Vermilion's 169. Huron (180), Margaretta (183), Edison (197) and Port Clinton (207) rounded out the field. Adler Ames (40) and Mason Dawson (41) led Willard. They were followed by Isaac Frye (43), Kaleb Weaver (44), Harrison Meisner (44) and Jaxson Hall (46). For Edison, Owen Price shot a 47 and Mason Hermes had a 48. They were followed by Brooks Ballah (51) and Weston Gfell (51), while Hayden Lewis added a 56 and Tyler Pounds had a 60. Huron wins best ball event HURON — Huron won its Best Ball Invitational at Thunderbird Hills North with a team score of 330. The format included boys and girls pairing up. Edison finished second with a 343. Willard's Adler Ames was the boys individual medalist with a 78. Edison's Annabelle Seville was the girls medalist with an 80. Huron's Paul Murray led the Tigers by shooting an 84. Spooner shot an 85. Hayden Lewis led Edison with an 82. Bellevue wins SBC shootouts TIFFIN — Bellevue shot a 164 to win a SBC Lake shootout Monday at Mohawk Golf & Country Club. Bellevue's Sam Cooper was medalist with a 3-over 39.. Columbian finished second (174), followed by Perkins (180), Clyde (184) and Norwalk (198). Emytt Graffice led the Truckers with a 45. He was followed by Cohen Shoop (47), Avery Reitzel (52) and Luke Metcalf (54). On Tuesday, another shootout was held at Green Hills in Clyde. The Redmen won with a team score of 151 while Perkins (165) was second, Columbian (167) was third, Clyde (176) was fourth and Norwalk (181) was fifth. Pacing Norwalk was Luke Metcalf, who tallied a 43. Cohen Shoop (45), Jarrett Scheid (46) and Emytt Graffice (47) also scored for the Truckers. GIRLS GOLF St. Paul 223, Port Clinton 229 NORWALK — The Flyers defeating Port Clinton by six strokes for a non-league win Monday at Eagle Creek. Alia Bogard led St. Paul with a 52 while Aubrey Dilger shot a 56. Annabelle Cooper added a 57 and Ava Englert fired a 58. The Flyers were slated to host Margaretta in non-league play Tuesday. Norwalk third at shootout CLYDE — The Truckers were third behind host Clyde (188) and Bellevue (192) after totaling a 194 on Tuesday at the SBC Lake shootout held at Green Hills. Perkins (196) was fourth at the event, which saw Norwalk's Adyson Lepley finish with a round of 44 with Evelyn Welschenbach shooting a 49. TENNIS Clyde 5, Willard 0 CLYDE — The Fliers lost just one set en route to a 5-0 non-league win over visiting Willard Monday. Emma Steinmetz fell to Ariah Farrar (6-1, 6-1) at first singles for Willard, while Evelyn Martinus lost to Kenzlie Guhn at second singles (6-1, 6-2). At third singles, Jillian Strong lost a tiebreaker to Ava Fosnight, 3-6, 6-4, 10-6. The first doubles team of Emie Buurma and Cora Clark lost to Delaney Fritz and Adriana Barnes-Ortmann (6-4, 6-2). At second doubles, Bella De Lara and Marina Ramos fell to Sophia Ruffing and Danika Harvey (6-2, 6-2).
