Seville shoots 70 to set Edison record

WILLARD — Edison's Annabelle Seville continued her dominant start to her junior golf season on Thursday. Seville shot a 2-under 70 to earn medalist honors at the Willard Invitational and set a school record in the process. She shot a 33 on the front nine and a 37 on the back at Willard Golf Course to dominate the eight-team event. Seville, a junior, recorded two chip-in eagles on par-4 holes. She got as low as 5 under with an eagle on No. 12. She earlier eagled No. 6. "She dealt with the severely sloped greens very well and did not 3-putt once," Edison coach Shayne Fischer said. "She is very goal driven and now she can cross off accomplishing the school 18-hole record, which was 73." Edison finished second in the team competition with a 386. Ontario won the invite with a 360. The Warriors' Brinlee Kreger was runner-up with an 83. Also scoring for the Chargers were Leah Sharp (95), Ella Rogers (99) and Averi Wolf and Lilly Davis (122s). For host Willard (454), Reese Bedingfield shot a 91 and Emma Whitright added a 101. Also for the Flashes, Ava Deel shot a 126 and Aylin Cuevas had a 136. Norwalk in Lake Shootouts OXFORD TWP. — The Norwalk boys and girls golf teams competed in the first SBC Lake golf shootout of the season Thursday morning at Woussickett Golf Course. In the boys match, Bellevue (159) cruised to the victory and finished ahead of Columbian (173), Perkins (175), Clyde (184) and the Truckers (197). For Norwalk, Cohen Shoot shot a 48 and Luke Metcalf was just behind with a 49. Caleb Thompson and Jarret Scheid each added 50s. Emytt Graffice also had a 54 and Avery Reitzel aded a 64. Perkins (200) won the girls shootout ahead of Clyde (209), Norwalk (212), Columbian (217) and Bellevue (226). Adyson Lepley led the Truckers with a 49. She was followed by Evelyn Welschenbach (51), Catherine Beamer (53) and Emerson Ulery (59). Also for Norwalk, Chloe Stanford-Jones had a 63 and Saige Konik shot a 70. BOYS GOLF Crestview 177, St. Paul 194 ASHLAND — The Flyers fell in their FC opener on Wednesday at Brookside Golf Club against host Crestview. Freshman Mason Beatty paced St. Paul with a 39. Sophomore Connor Polachek was next with a 42, followed by senior Everett Beal with a 56 and sophomore Jacob Penwell with a 57. Sophomore Tristan Schlachter added a 61. New London fifth at Simonson ASHLAND — Brody Sword shot a 77 to tie for fourth overall to help lead the Wildcats to fifth place out of 13 teams at Thursday's Ashland Simonson Invitational at Brookside Golf Club. Also for the Wildcats (340), Kade Detterman shot an 80 to place 10th overall. Grady Heileman shot an 86, followed by Logan Sword (97) and Presley Ferguson (98). New London will travel back to Brookside Friday to play in the Hillsdale Invite.
